Evelyn Sorensen, age 89, of Yankton, South Dakota, died Wednesday, January 13, 2010, at Avera Sister James Care Center in Yankton.
Funeral services will be 10:00 AM, Saturday, January 16, 2010, at Martinus Lutheran Church in rural Utica, South Dakota with Reverend Dean Schroeder officiating. Burial will be in the Yankton City Cemetery. Visitation is Friday, from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at the Wintz & Ray Funeral Home with a prayer service at 7:00 PM.
Pallbearers are Bob Tramp, Roy Sorensen II, James Sorensen, Brian Lemer, Dennis Varilek, Joe Perlinger, Dale Foxhoven, Scott Varilek, Brandon Varilek, Ryan Tramp, and Colton Foxhoven.
Evelyn Sorensen was born March 10, 1920, to James and Helen (Michalek) Koranda in rural Lesterville, South Dakota. She grew up in the Yankton area and graduated from Viborg High School in 1937. On March 12, 1938, she married Wilmer Sorensen. Together they farmed in the Yankton area for several years. Evelyn continued living on the farm until a few weeks ago, when she entered Avera Sister James Care Center.
She was a faithful member of Martinus Lutheran Church. She enjoyed playing cards, traveling, baking, working with her flowers, and watching her birds. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is survived by her three children, Marilyn (Harold) Tramp of Crofton, Nebraska, Lyle (Verna) Sorensen of Comfort, Texas, and Joan (John) Lemer of Hermosa, South Dakota; 8 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; and sister, Ardith Howard of Graham, North Carolina.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Wilmer on October 31, 1999; infant daughter, Elinor; and two brothers, Arnold and Kenneth Koranda.

Marilyn, I was so sorry to hear about your mom.
Sometimes it is so hard to accept a family member passing, but we have to remember it is all in that grand scheme of things. It takes time and prayer, but our life seems to take on it's own transitions. I would love to hear from you.
