Henrietta (Goeken) Mauch was born March 16, 1942 to Henry William Goeken and Mary Elizabeth (Pieper) Goeken in Fordyce, Nebraska. When she was a baby, they moved to Emerson Nebraska for 4 years where Henrietta started kindergarten. They then moved to south of Fordyce, Nebraska, where they lived for eight wonderful years. They moved to South Sioux City for a short time where she graduated from 8th grade from St. Michaels School in 1955. Moved to Hartington area where she graduated from Holy Trinity High school in 1959.

On September 14, 1960, Henrietta married Hubert Mauch. They lived on a farm south of Hubert’s family farm for about 1 ½ years. In January 1962, them oved to the Wakonda-Centerville, South Dakota area where they lived for five years. They then moved to Hartington for 5 years before moving to Hubert’s family farm in 1972 where they still lived today. Into this union, eight children were born, Susan, Charlene, Sandy, Mark, Theresa, JoAnn, Mike, and Christie. 21 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren with two more on the way and one great-great grandchild.

Henrietta worked for Joe’s Steakhouse in South Yankton for five wonderful years. She enjoyed her time there and the work family she grew close to during her time there. Henrietta worked the next 32 years at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital and enjoyed a different day every day she worked there. After she retired, Henrietta knew she had more to give others and came out of “retirement” and became a Homemaker for Avera. She often spoke of how rewarding that work was.

Henrietta enjoyed watching her children and grandchildren grow up and enjoyed watching all of them play sports. So many memories of state tournaments, championships, band concerts, Little Britches rodeos and 4-H. Henrietta also enjoyed her flowers, gardening, and having her grandchildren over for sleepovers, especially making homemade donuts. Fishing and camping at Cottonwood Campground were a true joy, especially the yearly “family camping” trip at Lewis & Clark Lake.

Henrietta was an active member of St. Boniface Catholic Church in Menominee, Nebraska. She was a member and officer of the Ladies Guild, member of the Parish Council, Christian Mothers’ President and head of the funeral committee for nine years.
