Private family burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Bonesteel, South Dakota. Terry John Seiler was born April 14, 1950, in Aberdeen, South Dakota to John and Rose (Welk) Seiler. He grew up on the family farm near Greenway, South Dakota and graduated from Eureka High School in 1968. He then attended Southern State College in Springfield, South Dakota, graduating with an associate degree of applied science.
On November 18, 1977, Terry married Marilyn Weisser. They celebrated 48 years of marriage this past year. Together they had 4 children George, Jessie, Amanda, and Jared. Terry worked various jobs in the Ag Industry, managing grain elevators which took them to South Dakota, North Dakota, and into Nebraska. Terry and family finally settled in Fairfax, SD where they finished raising their children and later welcomed 13 grandchildren into their family.
Terry found the job he enjoyed most later in life working for NAU as a crop insurance adjustor. He ended his 12-year career with NAU as a Field Claims Manager covering all of SD where he created connections with many of the adjustors he worked with.
Terry enjoyed golfing, rooting for the Minnesota Vikings and Twins, eating desserts, and socializing with friends. He especially loved his family and spent hours coaching baseball for his sons and umpiring for his daughter’s softball games. He could always be found in the bleachers supporting them. Later he travelled all over to do the same for his grandchildren’s’ sporting events, music concerts, and dance recitals. Terry’s faith was very important to him and he rarely missed mass. He loved to sing in the church choir, taught CCD, and chaperoned several Christian youth events over the years. Terry was also an avid “Do it yourselfer” which often resulted in assistance from family and friends to complete any of the numerous projects he started.
Survivors include his wife, Marilyn Seiler of Yankton; four children: George (Cassidy) Seiler of Leavenworth, Kansas; Jessie (Jason) Foote of Yankton; Amanda (Trevor) Woods of Yankton; and Jared (Teresa) Seiler of Mission Hill, South Dakota; 13 grandchildren: Easton, Jack, Charlie, Chloe, Claire, Lucas, Olivia, Alexis, Auviana, Allayna, Keenan, Brynlee, and Gibson; five siblings: Kay (John) Clark, Mary Anderson, Marlene Petterborg, Pam Whitmore, and John (Reine) Seiler; as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Paulette.
