Albin J. Schieffer, age 88 of Crofton, Nebraska, died on Tuesday, October 4, 2011 at the Avera Sacred Hospital in Yankton, South Dakota.
Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday, October 8, 2011 at 10:30 am at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Constance, Nebraska with Rev. David Fulton officiating. Burial will be in the St. Joseph's Cemetery in Constance with military honors provided by the Crofton American Legion Post 128. Visitation will be on Friday from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm with a Vigil Service at 7:00 pm at the Wintz Funeral Home in Crofton. Visitation will begin one hour prior to services on Saturday at the church. Pallbearers will be Marlen Schieffer, Brad Schieffer, Duane Schieffer, Andrew Schieffer, Kim Sudbeck and Steven Sudbeck.
Albin was born on May 7, 1923 at Constance, Nebraska to William P. and Anna Mary (Schumacher)
Schieffer. Albin served in the U.S. Army during WWII from June 21, 1945 to Nov. 24, 1946. He grew up and lived in the Constance area all of his life where he farmed. He also operated Schieffer Repair and did corn shelling and bailed hay for area farmers. He enjoyed attending area auctions. Albin was a member of the St. Joseph's Catholic Church and the Crofton American Legion Post 128.
Albin is survived by a brother, Loren and Jeannie Schieffer of Crofton; 2 sisters, Evelyn Stevens of Hartington; Lucine and Daniel Sanders of Omaha; a brother in law, Harold Sudbeck of Laurel, Nebraska and 10 nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Ralph Schieffer, 2 sisters, Dorothy Schieffer and Marvalee Sudbeck, and a brother-in-law Dick Stevens.
