Roman T. Potts, age 77 of Fordyce, Nebraska, died on Monday, November 7, 2011 at his residence.

Mass of Christian Burial will be on Friday, November 11, 2011 at 1:00 pm at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Fordyce with Rev. David Fulton officiating. Burial will be in St. John the Baptist Cemetery at Fordyce with military services provided by the Crofton American Legion Post 128. Visitation will be on Thursday from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm with a Vigil Service at 7:00 pm at the church. Visitation will begin one hour prior to services on Friday at the church. The Wintz Funeral Home in Hartington is in charge of arrangements.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Bill Potts, Frank Potts, Charles Potts, Steve Ausdemore and Dan Mullen.

Pallbearers will be E.J. Escamilla, Adam Dorfman, Jorden Escamilla, Travis Potts, Tyler Potts and Brady Potts.

Roman was born on January 31, 1934 at Fordyce to Frank J. and Mary (Schmidt) Potts. He grew up on a farm just north of Fordyce and graduated from Crofton High School in 1952. He farmed with his dad and then served in the U.S. Army from 1956 to 1958. Roman married Joan Bunge on October 13, 1959 at Fordyce. They farmed in the Fordyce area until 1965 when they moved to a farm north of Constance. In 1987 they moved to Fordyce and he retired from farming. Roman then worked for the Village of Fordyce for several years retiring in 2005.

Roman was a member of the Crofton American Legion Post 128. He loved to play cards and go fishing with his grandkids. He especially enjoyed his daily trips to check on his farm.

Roman is survived by his wife, Joan of Fordyce; 4 children, Renee Escamilla of Torrington, Wyoming; Julie Potts of Glendale, Arizona; Mike Potts of Norfolk; Jeff Potts of Crofton; 10 grandchildren, E.J., Jorden and Sarah Escamilla, Jessica and Adam Dorfman, Dezarae and Brady Potts, Sarah Reifenrath, Travis and Tyler Potts, 4 great grandchildren, 2 brothers, Leonard Potts of Crofton; Marcus and Donna Potts of Fordyce; a sister, LaVerna Mullen of Mesa, Arizona; and a sister in law, Bev Potts of Crofton.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a grandson, Michael Escamilla, a sister, Flavia Ausdemore and a brother, Gerald Potts.

I will always have wonderful memories of Roman, especially when you two were dating and we had to harvest crops on the "Bunge Farm". He used to tell me stories about the Army which I still remember today. You are in our thoughts and prayers.
