Marlene J. Kalin

Marlene J. Kalin, age 75 of Coleridge, Nebraska died on Tuesday, November 22, 2011 at the Providence Medical Center in Wayne, NE.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 am on Saturday, November 26, 2011 at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Coleridge with Rev. Jeffery Loseke officiating. Burial will be in St. Michael's Cemetery in Coleridge. Visitation will be on Friday from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm with a Vigil Service at 7:00 pm at the church. Visitation will begin one hour prior to services on Saturday at the church. The Wintz Funeral Home in Coleridge is in charge of arrangements.

Honorary Pallbearers will be her granddaughters, Samantha Kalin and Jessica Ahrendt.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Dexter, Luke, Joshua, Zachary, Tony and Matt Kalin, Jeremy and Joel Eddie.

Marlene was born on December 30, 1935 in Hartington, Nebraska to Elmo Henry and Florence Amelia (Koch) Dreesen. She grew up and attended school in Hartington. She married Stephen D. Kalin on January 13, 1953 at Coleridge and they made their home in Coleridge. Marlene began working as a housekeeper for the Coleridge Nursing Home in 1962. From August 8, 1972 to August 9, 2010 she worked as a nurse aide for Park View Haven Nursing Home in Coleridge. Marlene was a member of the St. Michael's Catholic Church and Guild. She loved to read and tend to her garden.

Marlene is survived by her husband, Stephen of Coleridge; 3 children and their spouses, Marlin and Sharon Kalin of Jackson, Nebraska; Debra and Charles Eddie of Ashland, Nebraska; Dave and Mary Kalin of Norfolk, Nebraska; a daughter in law, Sheila Kalin of Coleridge; 10 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, 7 sisters, Lorraine Harbeck of Lawndale, California; Bernadine Davis of Littleton, Colorado; Mary and Charles Young of Jackson, Nebraska; Helen and Alan Heikes of Wayne, Nebraska; Karen and Roger Arndt of Spencer, Iowa; Linda and Lonnie Schrempp of Yankton, South Dakota; Janice and Jim Tuttle of Hartington; and a sister in law, Mary Dreesen of Yankton, South Dakota.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, Vickie Ahrendt, a son, Gerald Kalin, 3 brothers, Richard, Robert and Edwin Dreesen and a sister Phyllis Vettel.
