Catherine F. Heimes, age 81 of Yankton, SD and formerly of Fordyce, NE died peacefully on Wednesday, July 13, 2011 at her residence.
Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday, July 16, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Fordyce, NE with the Rev. David Fulton officiating. Burial will be at St. John the Baptist Cemetery in Fordyce. Visitation will be on Friday at the Wintz & Ray Funeral Home in Yankton from 2-5:00 p.m. with a rosary at 3:00 p.m. in Yankton. A Vigil Service will be held on Friday at 7:00 at the Church in Fordyce. Arrangements are under the direction of the Wintz Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons Jason Heimes, Alex Heimes, Adam Heimes, Andrew Bergmann, Nick Davis and Christian Ray.
Catherine (Kate) Heimes was born to Herman and Lauretta Schmit Nordhues on June 28, 1930 in Randolph, Nebraska. Kate grew up in Randolph and attended St. Frances de Chantal grade and high school in Randolph; Briar Cliff College and Wayne State College. She then taught rural Cedar County schools for four years. She and Edwin Heimes were married in Randolph on August 17, 1953.
Survivors include her eight children, spouses and grandchildren Mike (Ceil) Heimes, & their children Jenea, Kendra, and Nanette, of Hartington, NE; Patricia (Jim) Bisignano, Sr. of Bellevue, NE; Phil (Joan) Heimes of South Yankton, NE & their son Jason (Hayley), Omaha, NE; Ray's wife Sigrid Heimes & children Alex and Adam Heimes, Marijke Thompson, Springfield, NE; Ruth (John) Bergmann & children Julie, and Andrew of Aurora, NE; Laura (Dave) Brown, Yankton, SD; Gail (Patrick) Davis & children Megan and Nick, Buffalo, MN; Jackie Heimes, Boston, MA, Tom (Michelle) Heimes & children, Christian and Kennedy of Springfield, NE; brothers John (Jean) Nordhues of Norfolk, NE; Larry (Jan) Nordhues of Kearney, NE; Paul (Doris Ann) Nordhues of Sioux City, IA; Joe (Rosalie) Nordhues of Randolph, NE; Dennis (Rosemary) Nordhues of Randolph, NE; sister Mary Goodwin, Omaha NE; sister-in-law Judy Kerkman of Clearwater, NE.
She was preceded in death by her husband Edwin on February 13, 1977 at the age of 62 years; daughter Jane, son Raymond, and granddaughter Nicole Heimes; parents Herman and Lauretta Nordhues, Emil and Anna Heimes; brother Herman Nordhues , sister Rosann Pollard and husband Ken Pollard; brother- in- law Robert Goodwin; sisters-in-law Amanda and Sr. Medarda Heimes.

Dear family of Catherine Heimes,
I worked with your mom at On Cue. She was a very hard worker and had a great love of books. I remember having lunch with her and she would only bring a yogart to eat and off she was back to her books. I enjoyed working with her very much and loved our conversations.
Later in my life after getting married and moving back to Yankton, my husband Brent worked at the bike shop below Ace Hardware, so he got to know Dave Brown well.
She is smiling down on all you dear to her heart. May she protect and guide you all through life with the grace of God.

Phil and Joan, So sorry for your loss. Bruce and I can relate since we have both lost our mothers. Just remember our thoughts are with you and more importantly you are in our prayers. May God's peace be with you and your family.

I am deeply saddened to hear of your moms passing. I also, worked with her at On Cue. I have many fond memories of her. She was always smiling and was such a joy to work with. She has a special place in my heart. I will never forget her.
May your memories comfort you. May God also grant you stregnth to overcome this difficult time.
