Charles J. Schulte, age 74 of Fordyce, Nebraska, died on Saturday, July 30, 2011 at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Mass of Christian Burial will be on Wednesday, August 3, 2011 at 10:30 am at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Fordyce with Rev. David Fulton officiating. Burial will be in St. John the Baptist Cemetery in Fordyce. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm with a Vigil Service at 7:00 pm at the church. Visitation will begin one hour prior to services on Wednesday at the church. The Wintz Funeral Home in Hartington is in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers will be Neil Thoene, Paul Thoene, Jim Sudbeck, Ken Eickhoff, Doug Stevens and Dave Carstensen. Honorary Pallbearers will be his grandchildren.

Charles was born on April 16, 1937 at Fordyce, Nebraska to Arthur and Martha (Lammers) Schulte. He grew up and lived on the Schulte home place where he farmed. Charles graduated from Holy Trinity High School in 1955. He married Anna Marie Steffen on June 6, 1962 at Fordyce. In 2002 Charles moved into Fordyce. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Fordyce and was a former member of the Fordyce Volunteer Fire Department. He especially enjoyed visiting with friends at Wiebelhaus station in Fordyce.

Charles is survived by 5 children, Mike and Michelle Schulte of Yankton, South Dakota; Donovan J. Schulte of Fordyce; Gary and Nancy Schulte of Yankton; Dale and Debbi Schulte of Battle Creek, Nebraska; Michelle and Eugene Kizzier of Maple Grove, Minnesota; 9 grandchildren, Wendy, Nathan, Evan, Paige, Jared and Katie Schulte, Garrison, Levi and Gloria Kizzier, a brother, Claude Schulte of Omaha; 2 sisters, Yvonne and Robert Carstensen of Omaha and Marie and Don Kramer of Omaha.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Art and Martha, and a grandson, Craig Schulte.
