Franklin Hefner, age 78 of Coleridge, Nebraska, died on Wednesday, August 3, 2011 at his residence.
Funeral Services will be on Saturday, August 6, 2011 at 2:00 pm at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Coleridge with Rev. Katherine Russell officiating. Burial will be in the Lawn Ridge Cemetery in Coleridge with military services provided by the Coleridge American Legion Post 114 and the Belden American Legion Post 149. Visitation will be on Friday from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm with a Prayer Service at 7:00 pm at the church. Visitation will begin one hour prior to services on Saturday at the church. The Wintz Funeral Home in Coleridge is in charge of arrangements.
Pallbearers will be Bryce Hansen, Franklin L. Hefner, Justin Davis, Jacob Davis, Alex Davis and Kerry Hefner. Honorary Pallbearers will be Holly Hefner, Heidi Hefner, Haley Hefner, Kasey Hansen, Dana Hansen, Maggie Hefner, Lillian Hefner and Mashala Davis.
Franklin was born on May 3, 1933 at rural Hartington to George P. and Alvina (Bartling) Hefner. He was baptized on June 11, 1933 and confirmed on June 8, 1947 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Coleridge. He grew up in the Coleridge area and graduated from Coleridge High School in 1950. Franklin served in Korea in the U.S. Army from May 1, 1953 to March 10, 1955. He married Janice Hinrichs on August 8, 1958 in Coleridge. After their marriage they farmed in the Coleridge and Belden area moving into Coleridge in 1992.
Franklin was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Coleridge and was a former council member. He was a member of the Coleridge American Legion Post 114 and was a former member of the Cedar County Extension Board. Franklin loved farming, and spending time with his children and grandchildren as well as following their activities. Franklin owned a 1951 Buick and enjoyed traveling and participating in local area parades. He always had special passengers for each parade. He enjoyed traveling with Janice and was a big Nebraska football fan.
Franklin is survived by his wife, Janice of Coleridge; 5 children and their spouses, Monty and Brenda Hefner of Laurel, Nebraska; Julie and Scott Perchynski of Sand Point, Idaho; Brian Hefner and his wife, Leslie Gibbens, of Lincoln, Nebraska; Karla and David Hansen of Hartington; Diana and Rick Davis of Carroll, Nebraska; 13 grandchildren, 2 brothers, Elroy and Carol Hefner of Coleridge; George V. and Kay Hefner of Coleridge and a sister, Delores and Wendell Hahne of Norfolk.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a granddaughter, Abigail Ann Hefner and 4 brothers, Wilfred, Marvin, Gerhardt and Wendel Hefner.
