Leota G. "Sim" Hans, age 89 of Wynot, Nebraska, died on Saturday, August 6, 2011 at the Avera Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton, South Dakota.
Mass of Christina Burial will be on Tuesday, August 9, 2011 at 10:30 am at Holy Family (Sacred Heart) Catholic Church in Wynot with Rev. Eric Olsen officiating. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Wynot. Visitation will be on Monday from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm with a Vigil Service at 7:30 pm at the church and will begin one hour prior to services on Tuesday at the church. The Wintz Funeral Home in Hartington is in charge of arrangements.
Leota was born on August 22, 1921 at Crofton, Nebraska to Charles and Marie (Schmidt) Yonke. She lived in Hartington until she was 8 years old and then moved to California for several years. Her family then moved to Wynot where Leota graduated from Wynot High School. She worked in an airplane factory in Omaha, Nebraska for several years during WWII and then returned to Wynot. She married Wilfred "Bill" Hans on November 27, 1945 at Wynot. They farmed on the west side of Wynot all their married life.
Leota was a member of the Holy Family (Sacred Heart) Catholic Church and Altar Society and the Christian Mothers. She loved to read, watch old movies and was always interested in all the activities on the farm.
Leota is survived by her husband, Wilfred "Bill" Hans of Wynot; 6 children, Stanley and Joyce Hans of Wynot, Russell Hans of Springfield, Nebraska; Wesley and Kimm Hans of Wynot; Pat and Roger Morten of Laurel, Nebraska; Richard and Valerie Hans of Wynot; Douglas Hans of Wynot; 15 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a grandson, Adam Hans.
