Vern D. Buschkamp

Vern D. Buschkamp, age 80 of Bloomfield, Nebraska formerly of Crofton, Nebraska died on Tuesday, May 08, 2018 at the Good Samaritan Society in Bloomfield, NE. Interment of Vern’s cremated remains will be at a later date at the Woodlawn Cemetery in Wausa, Nebraska. Vern Daniel Buschkamp was born on July 16, 1937 in Bloomfield, Nebraska to Mat and Elvera (Eliasson) Buschkamp. He grew up on a farm near Bloomfield and graduated from Bloomfield High School. Vern served in the U.S. Army as a Sergeant from 8/28/1956 to 7/23/1959. He served in occupied Japan when Russian submarines were seen in Tokyo Bay. Vern was a cryptographer and qualified as an Expert (Carbine). He continued as a Reserve until 1962. Vern married Geraldine Kay Johnson on January 14, 1960 in Creighton, Nebraska. They made their home in Mission Hill, South Dakota and then South Yankton, Nebraska for a short time. Vern and Geri then moved to Crofton in the mid 1960’s. He worked as an independent contract painter and enjoyed being able to set his own schedule. Vern had been a resident of the Bloomfield Good Samaritan Society since 12/5/2013. Vern loved to play cards and shoot pool. He also loved trees and his feral cats. Vern is survived by his two children, son Dan Buschkamp of Crofton; daughter Deb and husband Charles Buck of Lakewood, CO; a brother John and wife Helen Buschkamp of Littleton, CO. Vern was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Geri Kay on April 19, 2017; his daughter Dee Ann; and his twin sister Edith O’Brien.
