Scott Cutler, age 58, of Yankton, South Dakota, died surrounded by his family on Sunday, September 14, 2025 at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM, on Thursday, September 18, 2025 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Yankton with Reverend Steve Weispfennig officiating. Burial will follow at the Yankton Cemetery with military honors performed by the Ernest-Bowyer VFW Post No. 791 and the SD Army National Guard Funeral Honors. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, on Wednesday, September 17 at the Wintz & Ray Funeral Home in Yankton with a prayer service at 7:00 PM.
Pallbearers are Brad Alfson, Joe Steiner, Kelly Jensen and Travis Guettler.
Scott was born on January 18, 1967 in Aurora, Colorado to Curt and Sharon (Warner) Cutler. He graduated from Columbus High School in Columbus, NE in 1985. Scott excelled in wrestling and his team won many awards. After graduation, Scott joined the US Army National Guard. He went to basic training in Fort Benning, GA and served in the guards for 13 years. He was proud of his country and always flew the United States flag at his home. Scott attended Central Community College in Columbus where he also sang in the choir and then attended Southeast Community College in Lincoln, NE. Scott worked at various jobs before starting his 30+ year career in food service in the early 1990’s. He loved his customers and they were always his first concern. He would go above and beyond to always make sure he fulfilled their needs. Scott started in the warehouse, then moved up to sales, and was currently serving as a territorial manager. In 1991, Scott and Debbie Gustafson met in Lincoln, Nebraska. In 1995, they moved to Yankton and were united in marriage on August 8, 1998 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Columbus, NE. Scott and Debbie made their home in Yankton raising three boys: Alexander, Jared and Garrett.
Scott’s greatest joy was his family. His wife and boys meant the world to him. He cherished the outdoors and enjoyed hunting and fishing with them. He was an active member of Pheasants Forever. Scott enjoyed playing softball when he was younger and also enjoyed playing golf. He loved watching Nebraska Husker football as well as the LA Rams and Dodgers. Scott was deeply loved and will be greatly missed.
Scott is survived by his wife, Debbie Cutler of Yankton; three sons: Alexander, Jared and Garrett, all of Yankton; his parents, Curt and Sharon Cutler of Columbus, NE; two siblings, Todd (Shelly) Cutler and Stephanie (Bob) Ferguson, both of Omaha, NE; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Scott was preceded in death by his in-laws, Richard and Beverly Gustafson; grandparents: Carl and Shirley Cutler, Bob and Lois Warnke, Dewain Warner and Marie Della Ventura; aunts and uncles, Wayne Warner, Trudy Guettler, and Nancy and Gene Bowen.
