Sally T. Borreson, age 93, of Yankton, South Dakota, died Saturday, January 4, 2025, at Avera Sister James Care Center in Yankton.
A memorial service will be 2:00 PM on Friday, January 10, 2025, at the Wintz & Ray Funeral Home in Yankton, South Dakota, with Reverend Kwen Sanderson officiating. Burial will be at a later date at the Bethlehem Cemetery in rural Menno, South Dakota. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the memorial service on Friday at the Wintz & Ray Funeral Home.
Sally T. Borreson was born at home on her family farm west of Fordyce, Nebraska to Rudolph and Lucina (Becker) Schulte. She was baptized at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Bow Valley, Nebraska and attended a one room country school through 8th grade. As the oldest of five children Sally helped her dad with much of the farm work. She completed two years at Fordyce High School and an additional two years at Holy Trinity High School in Hartington, Nebraska to obtain her teaching certificate. She taught at District 57 near St. Helena for several years and met Jimmy Boeckman while staying with his family when roads were too bad to get home. They were married in June of 1951 in Bow Valley, Nebraska and raised nine children on the original family homestead.
In 1974 Sally married Henry Borreson. They lived in rural Utica, South Dakota and moved to Yankton, South Dakota in 1978. Henry passed away in August of 2019. Sally worked at the Black Steer restaurant in Yankton for 44 years, retiring when she was 82. Sally and Henry spent 27 winters in Mesa, Arizona where she thoroughly enjoyed working for 20 seasons at the Little Mesa Café. She loved to raise flowers, garden, can, and watch the birds. Sally really enjoyed visiting with people.
Sally is survived by her nine children: Barb and Gary Strivens of Wausa, Nebraska; Bob and Roxann Boeckman of Lincoln, Nebraska; Randy Boeckman of Humphrey, Nebraska; Rod & Lesa Boeckman of St. Helena, Nebraska; Deb and Tom O’Brien of Yankton, South Dakota; Barry Boeckman of Yankton; Cheryl Boeckman of Yankton; Cliff Boeckman of Albuquerque, New Mexico; and Marilyn Boeckman and Roy Hull of Gayville, South Dakota; 11 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; sisters: Mary Jane Hoesing of Newcastle, Nebraska and Norma VanHove of Renner, South Dakota; numerous nieces and nephews and her faithful friend, Art Huber.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Henry Borreson; brother, Richard Schulte; sister, Jeannette Tramp; brothers-in-law: Arnold Tramp, Bill Schaefer and Fintan Hoesing.
