Our mother Rose E. Kabeiseman, age 92, of Yankton, South Dakota, died Sunday, March 15, 2026, at Avera Sister James Care Center in Yankton.
A memorial service will be 10:30 AM on April 25, 2026, at the Wintz & Ray Funeral Home in Yankton, South Dakota, with Pastor Nate Moore officiating. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Yankton. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the memorial service at the Wintz & Ray Funeral Home.
Rose was born in Scotland, South Dakota on January 20, 1934 to Ernest and Maude Burgi. Although born in Scotland she lived her entire childhood in Yankton. She graduated from Yankton High School in 1952, and then chased her calling as a registered nurse at Sacred Heart Nursing School. During those years she married her high school sweetheart, William “Bill” J. Kabeiseman. They were united in marriage on December 28, 1955, and embarked on a journey lasting nearly six decades.
Soon after marriage they moved to Rolla, Missouri, as William pursued his Doctorate of Physics from the University of Missouri S&T, while Rose took care of their two children: Michael W. and Kathleen M. After the PhD was accomplished, the young family ended up in Vermillion South Dakota; one as a USD Professor, and the other as a Registered Nurse. After several years as an RN; Rose decided to open “The Young Edition” a children’s clothing store in Vermillion, (grandkids were ALWAYS well dressed – even if one hated it.)
Rose and William spent countless hours following their children compete in AAU Swimming. As a result, they were presented with the Ernie Gunderson Memorial award for their devotion to South Dakota competitive swimming. On top of watching their children compete in the pool, Rose and William’s personal competitive juices were filled with Competitive Duplicate Bridge lasting for several years, reaching North American Bridge Championship - Master Class award.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly request donations be made in Rose’s name to a charity of your choice, reflecting her spirit of generosity and love. Rose Kabeiseman will be remembered for her quick wit and undying support for those she loved. Her spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew her.
Survivors include her son, Michael W. (Barbara) of Yankton, South Dakota; daughter, Kathleen M. (John Lee) of Hawarden, Iowa; 6 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by the love of her life, William J Kabeiseman; her parents, Ernie and Maude Burgi; brother, Harold L Withee; sister, Betty Jean Pike (Withee); and sister, Anne Novotny (Burgi).
