Ronnie Ray Berney, age 71, of Yankton, South Dakota died on Wednesday, June 4, 2025 at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 AM, on Tuesday, June 10, 2025 at St. Benedict Catholic Church in Yankton with Reverend Thi Pham officiating. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Yankton with military honors provided by the Ernest-Bowyer VFW Post No. 791, the Patriot Guard Riders and the SD Army National Guard Funeral Honors. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the Mass on Tuesday and a rosary will be held at 9:30 AM. Arrangements are under the direction of the Wintz and Ray Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Yankton.
Ronnie was born December 10, 1953 in Albion, Nebraska to Raymond and Mildred (Schafer) Berney. He attended St. Michael’s Catholic School through the eighth grade and served Mass as an altar boy. Ron graduated from Albion High School in 1972 and then enlisted in the United States Army, serving three years in Germany. Upon returning, Ron worked at Lindsay Manufacturing for 47 years. Ron has two sons, Ryan and Andrew Berney. On August 19, 2005, he married Roberta Shreve and inherited two step sons, Jason and Jeremy Tramp. In 2018, Ron retired from Lindsay Manufacturing and they moved to Yankton. Ron loved the outdoors, camping and fishing with his family. He loved tinkering around in the garage and restored his vintage 1954 Chevy pickup which he was very proud of. Ron loved riding his motorcycle over the countryside. He was always ready and willing to go anywhere with anyone. He will be missed.
Ron is survived by his wife, Roberta; two sons, Ryan Berney and Andrew (Jessica) Berney; two step sons, Jason (Andrea) Tramp and Jeremy Tramp; five grandchildren: Hailey, Zivah, Aaron, Peyton and Aliyah; six sisters: Mary Pruss, Charlene (Joe) McKown, Marlene (Kerry) Rodysill, Arlene (Steve) Redler, Deb (Brian) Lind, and Teresa (Pete) Fritton; along with many nieces and nephews.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved dog, Sophie Jean.
