Robert G. “Bob” Lamprecht, 80, of Ponca, Nebraska, passed away on July 23, 2023, in Jackson, Nebraska.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, August 19, 2023 at Bob’s Bar from 4-8pm with service starting at 4:30pm with military rites provided by the Ponca, Allen and Newcastle American Legion Posts. The family extends their gratitude to all the many messages and calls they have received from family, friends, and customers from near and far. A memorial has been established and is kindly suggested to the family. Wintz Funeral Home in Hartington is assisting with arrangements.
He was born August 30, 1942, in Ponca to George and Amy (Gunderson) Lamprecht. Bob was raised in Ponca and graduated from Ponca High School with the class of 1959. After high school, Bob worked on the family farm with his parents and brothers raising cattle and pigs. Bob was called to serve his country during the Vietnam War and served as an Army Medic from May 13, 1968, to October 19, 1969.
Bob was united in marriage to Cathy Dowling on August 14, 1970, and to this union they were blessed with four daughters: Dawn, Amy, Cheryl, and Bobbi. They later divorced. Bob and Cathy purchased Dowling’s Bar in 1977 from Kenny & Dorothy Dowling, which would be later known as the legendary Bob’s Bar. Bob worked during the day for the City of Ponca and nights at the bar. He later retired from the City of Ponca and later worked for Dixon County Feed Yard.
Bob spent his life trying to make his customers happy and never wanted anyone to walk away hungry. A master behind the grill but humble in the spotlight. He was so proud of the legacy he created but it never changed who he was. After a night of cooking, he would relax by telling stories or playing jokes on others.
When Bob was not working at the bar, you could find him at Sam’s Club, working in his giant garden that he was so proud of, bowling, taking care of his rabbits, building or fixing something and cheering on his beloved Huskers. Bob loved to take his girls fishing but never had the chance to fish himself because he was always too busy putting on worms and untangling lines. He learned early on that he always had to buy four identical gifts so there wasn’t any fighting. Bob will be remembered by those that loved him for his kind & humble soul.
Those left to cherish his memory – Daughters: Dawn (Mike) Tomes of Utica, Amy (Heath) Penny of York, Cheryl (Randy) Morgan of Kearney, and Bobbi (Steve) Keil of Allen.
