Richard Joseph Pinkelman, age 82 of Wynot, Nebraska died on Saturday, January 13, 2024 at Arbor Care Center in Hartington.
Mass of Christian Burial will be on Wednesday, January 17, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Family (Sts. Peter & Paul) Catholic Church in Bow Valley, Nebraska with Rev. Jim Keiter officiating. Burial will be at Sts. Philip & James cemetery in St. James, Nebraska. Visitation will be on Tuesday, at church, from 5-7:00 p.m. with a Vigil service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue on Wednesday one hour prior to services. Arrangements are under the direction of the Wintz Funeral Home in Hartington.
Pallbearers will be Brian Pinkelman, Dennis Pinkelman, Doug Pinkelman, Eric Pinkelman, Amy Newsam, and David Newsam. Honorary pallbearers will be his grandchildren.
Richard Joseph was born on December 5, 1941 in Yankton, SD to Lawrence and Mary C. (Imoehl) Pinkelman. He attended elementary school through the eighth grade in St. James and then graduated from Cedar Catholic High School in Hartington. Following high school he started his career as a truck driver. After his brother James’ sudden death he took the family farm over full time. He married Mary Rose Moser on September 11, 1971 in Bow Valley, Nebraska, where they enjoyed 51 years of marriage until her passing.
Richard and Mary Rose were the proud parents of five children – Brian, Dennis, Doug, Eric, and Amy. Richard was a member of Holy Family, after the closing of St. Phillips and James Catholic Church. He and Mary Rose enjoyed bowling, cards, and bible study. Richard loved playing and watching baseball. Horseshoes was also a favorite pastime. Family time and working on the farm was always cherished by Richard and Mary Rose. Everyone enjoyed his sense of humor and his smile.
Richard is survived by his five children Brian (Ashley) Pinkelman of Vermillion, SD, Dennis (Joy) Pinkelman of St. Joseph, MO, Doug (Tracy) Pinkelman of Wynot, Eric (Nikki) Pinkelman of Hartington, Amy (David) Newsam of Hartington; 21 grandchildren Shaun (Lazliana), Darin, Logan, Brooklynn, Jade; Emma, Tessa, Lea, Wade; Wes, Josh, Alex, Zach; Addison, Taylor, Mya, Derik; Katelyn, Mason, Grayson, and Abigail, and a sister Helen Pinkelman of Wynot.
He was preceded in death by his parents Lawrence and Mary Pinkelman; wife Mary Rose on March 7, 2023 at the age of 70 years; a brother James Pinkelman.
