Renate Foxhoven

October 25, 1942 — December 7, 2023

Renate Foxhoven, age 81, died on Thursday, December 7, 2023 at Sunset Manor in Irene, South Dakota where she received excellent care.

A graveside service will be held at 2:30 PM, on Thursday, December 14, 2023 at St. Joseph Cemetery in Constance, Nebraska with Reverend Jim Keiter officiating.  Arrangements are under the direction of the Wintz & Ray Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Yankton.

Renate was born October 25, 1942 in Wuppertal, Germany where she met Joseph Foxhoven who was serving in the United States Army and stationed in Germany.  Renate and her son, Andreas immigrated to the United States in 1966. Renate and Joseph were married on September 24, 1966 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Crofton, NE.  Shortly after their marriage, Joseph received his orders to serve in Vietnam.  Renate was a strong woman and taught herself how to read, write and speak English.  She was naturalized and became a US citizen in 1981. Over the years, Renate worked as a waitress, factory worker at several different manufacturing companies, as well as managing Valley View Country Store.  She was also active in the Ladies Auxiliary for the South Dakota Army National Guard.

Renate loved hosting Kaffee Klatsch which refers to a group of friends getting together over a cup of coffee, usually at someone's house.  She also loved dancing and going on a Sunday afternoon drive.

Renate is survived by five children: Andreas Preute of Burbank, SD, Monica Foxhoven (Bill Bamsey) of Yankton, Susan Foxhoven (Jerrold Biel) of Yankton, James (Kim) Foxhoven of Yankton, and Thomas Foxhoven (Sheila Henningfeld) of Sioux City, IA; 12 grandchildren: Sheena, Joshua, Alexandra, McKenzie, Madison, Jaycie, Derrick, Brody, Carsyn, Cassidy, Erica, and Dustin; 12 great grandchildren: Carter, Johnny, Juliana, Cooper, Trey, Harper, Maverick, Miles, Archie, Brooklyn, Vivien and Aspyn.

Renate was preceded in death by her mother, Helga Waltraut (Preute) Gengel and father, Paul Muller.
