Randall L. Scharffenberg

Randall L. Scharffenberg, age 75, of Yankton, South Dakota, passed away on Sunday, August 2, 2026 at Angelhaus East in Yankton.

A celebration of his life will take place at 11:00 AM, on Friday, August 7, 2026 at Wintz & Ray Funeral Home in Yankton. Military honors performed by the Ernest-Bowyer VFW Post 791 will follow the service. The family will receive friends one hour prior the service at the Wintz & Ray Funeral Home.

Randall Leo Scharffenberg was born on January 25, 1951, in Mitchell, South Dakota, to Ernest Henry Scharffenberg and Mary Margaret (Olinger) Scharffenberg. He attended St. Stephen School in Bridgewater, South Dakota and graduated from Bridgewater High School in 1969. An avid sports fan, Randy was student manager for the BHS athletic teams. After graduation, he joined the United States Air Force. After his military discharge, Randy worked at Kolberg Manufacturing, now Astec Industries, in Yankton until he retired. He followed sports teams at Yankton High School, Mount Marty University, and the Minnesota Twins, and was well known for his knowledge of sports trivia.

Randy is survived by his sisters: Jean (George) Conroy of Mitchell, South Dakota and Linda (Robert) Moore of Marshalltown, Iowa; and nephews: Jeffrey Hanzlik of Mason City, Iowa, and Michael Hanzlik of Portland, Oregon.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Roger Scharffenberg; and sister-in-law Janet Scharffenberg.
