Phyllis J. Thoene, age 92 of Fordyce, Nebraska died on Monday, June 30, 2025 at Accura Healthcare in Hartington, Nebraska.
Mass of Christian Burial will be on Thursday, July 10, 2025 at 10:30 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Fordyce with the Rev. Jim Keiter officiating. Burial will be at St. John the Baptist cemetery in Fordyce. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 9th at church, from 5-7:00 p.m. with a Vigil service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue on Thursday one hour prior to services. Arrangements are under the direction of the Wintz Funeral Home in Hartington.
Pallbearers will be Nick Gubbels, Bryan Thoene, Marcus Heithold, Steven Thoene, Matt Ryan, and Alex Hayes.
Phyllis Jean was born on December 18, 1932 in Fordyce, Nebraska to Raymond and Viola (Hochstein) Lammers. She attended elementary school at the Lammers Ranch Country School and graduated from Mount Marty High School in Yankton, SD in 1951. Phyllis was raised on a farm five miles southwest of Fordyce and has lived in the Fordyce area all her life until moving to the Hartington nursing home five years ago. She married Marcus Francis Thoene on October 7, 1952 in Fordyce. Marcus died on November 21, 2009 at the age of 84 years.
Phyllis was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, the St. John’s Ladies Guild and a member of the choir for almost 50 years. She was also involved with the Christian Mother’s. She always raised a big garden, canned her produce, raised chickens and helped Marcus on the farm. Raising her family of six children was one of her cherished memories. Phyllis loved music and attended many of the Yankton Community concerts. She loved playing cards, especially Pitch and Sheephead. Phyllis supported her husband Marcus when he was a member of the Men of Note singing group.
Phyllis is survived by her five children and their spouses Karen (John) Gubbels of Randolph, Daniel (Cindy) Thoene of Fordyce, Carol (Charles) Ryan of Yankton, Paul (Tammy) Thoene of Fordyce, Neal and domestic partner (Terri Gillam) of Fordyce; eight grandchildren; six great grandchildren; sisters-in-law Alice Lammers of Alberta, Canada, Jean Marie Lammers of Hartington; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Marcus (2009), son Maurice Thoene (1974), brothers Donovan, Marcel, and Thomas Lammers; sister-in-law Jeanette Lammers; numerous uncles and aunts.
