Patrick Arthur O’Hara, age 84, of Yankton, South Dakota, died on Sunday, February 25, 2018 at Avera Sister James Care Center in Yankton. Mass of Christian Burial is 10:30 AM, on Thursday, March 1, 2018 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Yankton with Reverend Larry Regynski officiating. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Yankton with military honors provided by the Ernest-Bowyer VFW Post No. 791 and the SD Army National Guard Funeral Honors. Visitation is from 5:00 to 8:00 PM, on Wednesday, February 28 at the Wintz & Ray Funeral Home with a rosary at 6:45 PM, followed by a vigil service at 7:00 PM. Visitation continues one hour prior to the funeral at the church. Pallbearers are his grandsons: Scott Raabe, Chris Raabe, Jason Schweitzer, Kenneth VenOsdel, Nick VenOsdel, Ryan O’Hara, Juven VenOsdel and Tate O’Hara. Patrick was born July 31, 1933 in Montrose, South Dakota to Vincent and Gertrude (Foster) O’Hara. He graduated from Madison High School in Madison, SD in 1951 and went on to Dakota State where he took classes in math, science and industrial arts. On Christmas Day 1953, Pat married Yvonne “Vonnie” O’Hara in Grant, NE. Pat served in the US Army from 1953 to 1955 and was stationed in Fort Benning, GA. After his discharge, started his career in Ramona, SD, teaching math and science in addition to coaching football, basketball and track. He and his family then moved to Walthill, NE where Pat continued to teach and coach as well as doing construction work. They moved to Omaha, NE where he worked as a salesman for J.I. Case and eventually settled in Yankton. Pat started his own construction business and spent some time teaching at Sacred Heart Catholic School. He then began a home inspection business and his final job was working as project manager for the state of South Dakota. Pat enjoyed woodworking, playing cards and pool. But most of all, he cherished spending time with his very large family. Pat was also involved in the Knights of Columbus and enjoyed going to coffee with his buddies. He loved to hunt, fish, and search for fossils with his children. Pat was a very devoted husband, father and grandfather who will be missed very much. Patrick will be greatly missed by his five children: Theresa (Lee) Raabe of Sioux Falls, Margie O’Hara of Sioux Falls, Tim O’Hara (Alice Wieseler) of Yankton, Bridgette (Clay) VenOsdel of New London, MN and Scott O’Hara of Highlands Ranch, CO; 16 grandchildren; and 28 great grandchildren; one brother, Nicholas (Ramona) O’Hara of Edina, MN; two sisters, Lois O’Hara and JoAnne Lentsch, both of Madison, SD and many nieces and nephews. Patrick was preceded in death by his parents; wife Vonnie on May 16, 2017; brother-in-law, Kenneth Lentsch; Vonnie’s siblings, Eddie Tagge and Murleen Ourada.
