Mike Tweedy, age 72, of Yankton, South Dakota, died Friday, August 29, 2025, at his home while on hospice care.
A private family graveside service with military honors, followed by a celebration of Mike’s life will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of the Wintz & Ray Funeral Home in Yankton, South Dakota.
Michael Tweedy was born June 8, 1953, in Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri, to Ben and Pearl (Erickson) Tweedy. He grew up in Nebraska and South Dakota and graduated from Gayville High School in 1971. He then entered into the United States Army where he served for two years followed by two years with the Army National Guard. He married Carol Bohlman on May 25, 1975, in Yankton, South Dakota, and together had three children: Jason, Amber and Jeremy. Mike began working for Kellen & Streit until 1992 when he began working for the Yankton County Highway Department, which he continued until his retirement in 2013.
Mike was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Yankton and enjoyed working in his garden, raising chickens, traveling, fishing, hunting with his brother-in-law, John, listening to country music, working in his garage. He was a caring, generous man who was always willing to help. He loved his family and loved spending time with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Carol Tweedy of Yankton; two children: Amber (Chris) Roy of Duluth, Minnesota and Jeremy (Tressie) Tweedy of Yankton; four grandchildren: Laruen, Calvin, Kaden, and Emma; mother, Pearl Tweedy of Crofton; two brothers: Robert (Peggy) Tweedy and Les Tweedy; three sisters: Cheryl Schroeder, Marlene Tweedy and Phoebe Dirks; as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Ben Tweedy; son, Jason Tweedy; brother, Dennis Tweedy.
