Mary Farrell Mallory, 66, passed away on August 29, 2026, in Yankton, South Dakota, leaving behind a family and community who will remember her warmth, devotion, and tenacious spirit.
Mary was born on October 23, 1959, at McKennan Hospital and spent her childhood in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. She graduated from Washington High School before attending Mount Marty College in Yankton, a community she came to call home. Mary devoted 26 years to her work at the South Dakota Human Services Center before retiring in 2021.
With her first husband, Mike Benson, Mary welcomed three beloved sons: Eric, Nathan, and John. In time, her family grew to include two adored granddaughters, Morgan and Evelyn. Family meant everything to Mary, and she loved them fiercely.
Mary later married Brad Mallory, the love of her life. Together they traveled extensively before and after her retirement, taking countless trips across the United States, including memorable visits to Florida, South Padre Island, and Hawaii. Of all the places she loved, San Diego remained her favorite, and she returned there again and again over the decades.
Those who knew Mary will remember her as someone who was a loyal friend and a beloved wife, mother, sister, and grandmother. She loved to share stories and celebrate those close to her. Her absence will be felt in many spaces but by her family most of all.
Mary was preceded in death by her beloved son, John Benson; her parents, Robert and Elizabeth Farrell; and her brothers, Mike Farrell and Ron Farrell.
She is survived by her husband, Brad; sons, Nathan and Eric; granddaughters, Morgan and Evelyn; brothers, Gary Farrell and Gene Farrell; and her sisters, Sharon Hirrschoff and Patty Farrell, along with many extended family members and dear friends who will miss her deeply.
Funeral arrangements are pending and will be announced at a later date.
