Mary Kay Fetsch, age 87 of Omaha, Nebraska and formerly of Hartington, NE died on Tuesday, July 8, 2025 at Astoria Assisted Living and Memory Care in Omaha.
Funeral Services will be on Friday, July 11, 2025 at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hartington with the Rev. Amanda Talley officiating. Burial will be at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, MN. Visitation will be on Thursday from 5-7:00 p.m. at the Wintz Funeral Home in Hartington. Arrangements are under the direction of the Wintz Funeral Home in Hartington.
Mary Kay was born on June 25, 1938 in Yankton, South Dakota to E. Merton and Phyllis (Jenny) Olson. She was confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hartington, NE. She graduated in 1956 from Hartington Public High School and attended South Dakota State University and Wayne State College. She worked at the Nebraska State Capital in Lincoln.
She married Gary Fetsch of St. Paul, MN on September 17, 1961 at Trinity Lutheran Church. He was a member of the U.S. Air Force. They had three daughters, Dawn, Cynthia, and Sandra, and one son, Michael. Gary passed away in 1976, and Mary Kay moved back to Hartington to raise her children. She worked for the Hartington Public Schools, first as a teacher's aide and then as a transportation aide. She was a proud member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary.
She is survived by her daughter Dawn (Omaha), son Michael (Omaha), son-in-law Randy Hawk (Beemer, NE), her grandchildren Rylee Hawk (Lincoln) and Cole Hawk (Lincoln), her brother and sister-in-law Gary and Dianne Olson (Melbourne, FL), brother-in-law Richard Hoestje (Wahoo, NE), sisters-in-law Patricia Olson (Victorville, CA), Joan Gerr (Shoreview, MN), and Gayle Fetsch (Poway, CA), and brother-in-law and sister-in-law Bob and Susie Fetsch (Olathe, KS). She has many nieces, nephews, and grand nieces and nephews who all meant so much to her. She is also survived by John and Kathy Lounsbery, Angela Wiedenfeld, Jacob, Mason, Ryan and Tyson; Paula and Marshall Bahm, Taten and Tucker; and Kayla and Jamal Robertson, Montgomery, Nicholas and Siobhan.
She was preceded in death by her husband Gary Fetsch, daughters Cindy Fetsch and Sandy Hawk, her parents Mert and Phyllis, her grandmother Mrs. M.A. Olson (Effie), brother David Olson, sister Berneice Hoestje, brothers-in-law Tom Fetsch, Jim Fetsch and Stuart Gerr, sister-in-law Anita Fetsch, and niece Jenny (Fetsch) Reinertson.
