Mary Jane Hoesing, age 93 of Newcastle, Nebraska passed away on Friday, February 13, 2026 at the Avera Heart Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD due to complications after surgery. She was surrounded by her family.

Mass of Christian Burial will be on Thursday, February 19, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Newcastle with the Rev. Kevin Vogel officiating. Burial will be at the Calvary Cemetery in Newcastle. Visitation will be from 10-11:00 a.m. at church with a rosary at 10:30 a.m. Arrangements are under the direction of the Wintz Funeral Home in Hartington.

Pallbearers will be Jeff Burbach, Andrew Hoesing, Matthew Hoesing, Dwight Wudel, Chris Kneifl, Kevin Kneifl.

Mary Jane was born on January 11, 1933 in Fordyce, Nebraska to Rudolph and Lucina (Becker) Schulte. She went to grade school at District 108 Brookside School and graduated from Holy Trinity High School in Hartington. Mary Jane married the love of her life, Fintan John Hoesing on January 30, 1952 in Bow Valley, NE. Soon after their marriage they purchased a farm and started building their lives and family together.

Mary Jane helped Fintan raise cattle, hogs, and chickens along with helping with field work raising corn, beans, oats and alfalfa. She also had a big garden that fed their seven children. She was a great baker, making her famous sticky buns, pies, cakes, deserts and always feeding guests, no one went away hungry. Her children all have memories of cranking homemade ice cream a special treat and coming home from school to the smell of homemade bread. Mary Jane still found time to always sew her children’s clothes, make quilts, and do embroidery work. She was also the bookkeeper for their farming operation.

Her faith was very important to her as she was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church and the Sacred Heart Sodality.

Mary Jane is survived by her five children- Larry Hoesing of Creighton, Donna Hoesing of Yankton, SD, Arthur (Julie) Hoesing of Yankton, SD, Alfred (Monika) Hoesing of Maskell, NE, Elmer (Jane) Hoesing of Coleridge, NE, six grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and one on the way, a sister Norma Van Hove of Renner, SD, many nieces and nephews, sister-in-law Shirley McCloud of Yankton, SD.

She was preceded in death by her parents Rudolph and Lucina Schulte, husband Fintan, sons Bernard, and Leonard, a grandson Jerome, siblings Richard Schulte, Sally (Henry) Borreson, Jeanette (Arnold) Tramp.
