Mary Clare Haberman was born September 10, 1944, in Yankton, South Dakota, to Howard and Evelyn (Klimisch) Frick. She grew up in Yankton, attended Sacred Heart School, and graduated from Mount Marty High School in 1962. She then began her career in banking, working as a bookkeeper for American State Bank which later became First Dakota National Bank in Yankton. She married Alfred Haberman on June 24, 1963, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Yankton. They lived in Yankton for a short time while they built their home on their acreage in rural Menominee, Nebraska. Mary loved being in the country surrounded by the rolling hills and nature. After Alfred died in 1990, she continued to live on their acreage until moving to Yankton in 2017.

Mary was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church in Menominee where she was active in the Ladies Guild. She later became a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Yankton. Mary was an independent and devoted woman. She enjoyed traveling with Alfred to stockyards all over the country. Mary’s work in deposits and compliance at First Dakota spanned just over 50 years. She enjoyed this work but especially appreciated the many close relationships she built with her work family. She loved traveling on First Dakota trips and having lunches with other First Dakota retirees as well as her close friends at St. Boniface Catholic Church. Mary enjoyed golfing and once got a hole in one at Fox Run Golf Course. During the winter months, she would often head with friends to warmer climates for golf fun. Mary was an avid bowler. She attended many state and national bowling tournaments and once had a high score of 279. Mary also enjoyed crocheting, making many afghans to give away as gifts. Family was very important to Mary. She always looked forward to gatherings with the Frick or Haberman relatives. She will be missed

Survivors include her three siblings: Gerald Frick of Yankton, South Dakota; Jeanne Schlup of Hudson, South Dakota and Charles (Rita) Frick of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; many nieces and nephews and numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews.
