Marjorie L. Van Goor was born November 16, 1925, in Detroit, Michigan, to Ralph and Florence (Reinhardt) Biddison. As a child her family moved all over during the depression. She graduated from Beaumont High School in St. Louis, Missouri. Throughout all of the moves, her family often made trips to Yankton, South Dakota to visit her grandparents and family. During one of those visits, Marjorie was introduced to Joseph F. Van Goor. They stayed in touch throughout the years and were later married on December 31, 1948, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Yankton. They lived in Yankton their whole married life and Marjorie loved being a mom to her seven children.
Marjorie was deeply creative throughout her life. A master seamstress, she shared her talents as the manager of JoAnn Fabrics in Yankton from 1980 to 1987, where her love for sewing and creating beautiful things flourished. She also found joy in flower gardening and took great pride in designing stunning flower planters. In 2013, Marjorie moved to an apartment in Lafayette, Colorado, and following her bout with COVID, entered Life Care Center in Longmont, Colorado. While at the nursing home, her creativity continued to shine. She enjoyed adult coloring books, what she fondly referred to as her “paintings”. She completed numerous binders filled with artwork and loved showing and sharing her creations with people.
Above all, she had a deep and undying love for her family. She supported each of her children in following their passions and encouraged them every step of the way. She delighted in her grandchildren and loved watching them grow into happy, accomplished adults. She also cherished her great-grandchildren, delighting in the joy they brought to her from the curiosity of a ten-month old to the accomplishments of a twenty-four year old.
Survivors include her six children: Stephen (Linda) Van Goor of Scottsdale, Arizona; Valerie Whitney of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Anthony (Marilyn) Van Goor of Loveland, Colorado; Joseph D. (Michele Mueller) Van Goor of Vermillion, South Dakota; Lisa (Bob Bauers) Van Goor of Lafayette, Colorado; and Jacqueline (Dave) Jerke of Yankton; 11 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Joseph F. Van Goor in 2002; son, David Van Goor; son-in-law, Dennis Whitney; sister, Doris Means; and brother William Biddison.
