She lived on a farm near Scribner, attended District 50 School in Dodge County, then graduated from Scribner High School. Marjorie continued her education at Wayne State College. Upon graduation, she worked as an elementary school teacher.

Marjorie was baptized on April 11, 1954, and confirmed on May 16, 1954, at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Dodge, NE. She was married to Jerome C. Mackey on June 7, 1954, at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Muskegon, MI. They lived in Whitehall, MI and Ft. Riley, KS after their marriage until moving to a farm north of Dixon, NE in 1955.

She loved her flowers and gardening, followed Husker football and her children’s and grandchildren’s activities, was an avid reader and enjoyed the challenge of a difficult crossword puzzle. During her retirement, Marjorie kept her hands busy in service to others by making quilt tops that provided warmth and comfort to those in need. In May of 1992, Marjorie was awarded the Good Neighbor Citation by the Knights of Ak-Sar-Ben and the World-Herald for unselfish and charitable deeds beyond the field of personal gain or welfare, thus exemplifying the good neighbor spirit of the Midwest.
