Lois Faye Brummels, age 94 of Coleridge, Nebraska died on Wednesday, February 21, 2018 at Park View Haven Nursing Home in Coleridge. Funeral Services will be on Saturday, February 24, 2018 at 10:30 am at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Coleridge with Rev. Russ Lambert officiating. Burial will be in the Lawn Ridge Cemetery in Coleridge. Visitation will be on Friday from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm with a Prayer Service at 7:00 pm at the church. Visitation will begin at 9:30 am on Saturday at the church. The Wintz Funeral Home in Coleridge is assisting with arrangements. Honorary Pallbearers will be her granddaughters, Jackie Froendt, Brenda Tyndall, Patt Gall, Carol Stewart, Kara Wiedeman, Anne Schulte, Kendra Kemnitz, Evie Potts, Melissa Doerr and Laura Brummels. Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Douglas Brummels, Mike Nelson, Lee Potts, Jeff Brummels, Jeremy Brummels, Peter Brummels, Daniel Brummels, Thomas Brummels, Chris Brummels and David Brummels. Lois was born on January 22, 1924 in Randolph, NE to James Daniel and Chloe (Griffith) Coulter. She grew up on the Coulter family farm near Randolph and attended a rural country grade school and Randolph High School through the tenth grade. She worked for various families in the Randolph area as a hired girl and baby sitting and worked at the Joe Miller grocery store. Lois and Gilbert E. Brummels were married at the St. John Lutheran Church Parsonage in Randolph on September 12, 1944, while he was home on leave from the U.S. Navy. After Gilbert was discharged, the couple farmed on several farms near Randolph, three years near Brunswick and then moved to a farm west of Coleridge where they lived for 47 years before moving into Coleridge in 2001. Lois was a loving, hardworking, dedicated wife, mother and homemaker. She baked many batches of delicious homemade bread, pies, angel food cakes and picked lots of strawberries from her large strawberry patch. She made many jars of jelly and quarts of canned goods. Lois enjoyed handiwork to include making crafts and crocheting afghans and other gifts for all her grandchildren. Lois loved to dance when younger and could play the piano by ear. She and Gilbert enjoyed square dancing for many years. Lois belonged to the Immanuel Lutheran Church and the Ladies Circle in Coleridge and the Willing Workers Extension Club. Lois is survived by her husband of 73 ½ years, Gilbert of Coleridge; 5 children, Judy and Ron Nelson of Coleridge; Robert and Kathy Brummels of Coleridge; Joan and Jim Potts of Hartington; Dwight and Gloria Brummels of Randolph; Kent and Debbie Brummels of Hartington; a daughter-in-law, Gloria Brummels of Hartington; 20 grandchildren, 39 great grandchildren, 1 great, great grandson, a sister, Gloria and Omar Smith of Norfolk, NE; a brother-in-law, Robert and Darlene Brummels of Elkhorn, NE; 4 sisters-in-law, Verlene Ryan of Norfolk, NE; Delma Ronspies of Norfolk, NE; Frances Brummels of Ewing, NE; Joanne Brummels of Pasa Robles, CA; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, a son Gaylen; grandson John Brummels; great granddaughter Aimee Brummels; 3 sisters, Olive B. Albrecht, Onalie M. Nordhues, Glyde L. Hise and several nieces and nephews.
