Leland "Spud" Clark Jr.

Leland “Spud” Clark Jr., age 80, of Yankton, South Dakota, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 27, 2025 at his home surrounded by family.

A celebration of his life will be held together with his wife, Lorri Clark, at 10:30 AM, on Saturday, October 4, 2025 at the Wintz & Ray Funeral Home in Yankton. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in the Mission Hill Cemetery in Mission Hill, SD following a luncheon at the Wintz & Ray Hospitality Center.

Spud was born on April 12, 1945 to Christena “Tena” (Peterka) and Leland “Spud” Clark Sr. in Yankton, SD. He grew up in Mission Hill, SD and graduated from Gayville High School. After high school, he worked for the Human Services Center until retirement in 2000. Following retirement, Spud worked part-time for the Yankton Sheriff Department assisting with transports of juveniles and prisoners.

On September 11, 1974, Spud and Lorri were married at the justice of the peace in Yankton, SD. After they were wed, they moved to Gayville SD where they lived for the majority of their years together and with their two daughters, Andrea and Shelley.

Spud was known to many as a storyteller and a prankster. He also enjoyed tinkering with guns and hunting deer, antelope and coyotes. He explored many parts of the United States with his wife and daughters to which most trips ended with him saying “we are never going on another trip ever again” just to be followed by planning the next destination.

Spud is survived by his daughters, Andrea (Bill) Maibaum of Yankton and Shelley Clark of Helena, MT; and granddaughter, Adelyn Maibaum of Yankton.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, parents and sister.
