Lee Pommerville, age 79, of Lesterville, South Dakota, died Thursday, March 10, 2022, at his home in Lesterville. A memorial service will be at 3:00 PM on Tuesday, March 15, 2022, at Salem Reformed Church in Menno, South Dakota, with Reverend Michael Hecht officiating.  Military honors will be provided by the Rames-Bender American Legion Post # 152.  The service will be live streamed and can be viewed at www.facebook.com/WintzRay.  Burial will be at a later date in the South Dakota State Veterans Cemetery in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the memorial service on Tuesday, at the church.  Arrangements are under the direction of the Wintz & Ray Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Yankton, South Dakota. Lee Pommerville was born October 10, 1942 in Duluth, Minnesota, to Glen and Dorothy (Channer) Pommerville.  When he was young his family moved to Portland, Oregon and Lee graduated from Roosevelt High School in Portland in 1960.  He then enlisted into the United States Army and served three years in Germany.  He returned to Portland after his discharge and married Patricia Blazier on September 12, 1964.  He worked for a welder and later as a custodian for the Portland Public School System.  Lee retired in 2004 and in 2011 moved to Lesterville, South Dakota to be with his son and daughter-in-law as well as his grandchildren. Lee was a quiet, stern man who had a heart of gold and loved everyone.  He was a leader in the Indian Guides and coached his son’s baseball team.  He loved being with his family and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.  He boxed in the Golden Gloves in his youth and continued boxing during his time in the army.  He was a member of Salem Reformed Church in Menno and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Survivors include his wife, Pat Pommerville of Lesterville, South Dakota; son, Michael (Tammy) Pommerville of Lesterville; two grandchildren: Jeff (Tiffany) Pommerville of Lesterville and Venessa (William) Teegarden of Yankton, South Dakota; and six great grandchildren: Zack, Kylie, Tracy, Brooklynn, Trinity and Elliott. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Duane.
