Laura Ann Haas

Laura Ann Haas, age 39, of Yankton, South Dakota, died of natural causes on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton.

A private family service will be held at the Wintz & Ray Funeral Home in Yankton, South Dakota. Burial will take place at the Gayville Cemetery in Gayville, South Dakota.

Laura was born in November 1986 in Yankton, South Dakota, to Marilyn (Boeckman) Haas and Kevin Haas. She attended Yankton area schools until 1997, when her family relocated to Tempe, Arizona. There, she continued her education in the Kyrene Unified School District until 2003, when she transferred to Bethel Girls Academy in Petal, Mississippi, where she graduated.

Following graduation, Laura moved to Nashville, Tennessee, with the directors of Bethel Academy to help establish a home for troubled teenage girls. Her willingness to serve others and make a difference in the lives of young people reflected the compassion that would define her life.

In 2009, Laura returned to Yankton, South Dakota. The following year, she welcomed her first child, Freddy, in 2010, followed by Bentlee in 2012, Avery in 2014, Rylee in 2016, and Cayden in 2018. Being a mother was the role she treasured most, and her children were the center of her world. From an early age, Laura was an artistic and outgoing soul with a huge heart. She loved animals, small children, and music, and she had a gift for making people feel seen and cared for. She enjoyed creating beaded bracelets to share with friends and family, finding joy in giving handmade gifts to those she loved. Drawing and art were her favorite forms of self-expression, allowing her creativity to shine.

Laura's generosity knew few limits. She would gladly give whatever she had to help someone in need, especially those whom others overlooked or forgot, often putting the needs of others ahead of her own. Her kindness and empathy left a lasting impression on everyone who knew her.

Some of Laura's happiest moments were the simple ones—spending time with her children, driving with the windows down, her favorite music turned up loud, and keeping an eye out for "Five-O" along the way. Those who knew her will remember her warm heart, her free spirit, her creativity, her infectious love for life, and the deep love she had for her family and friends.

She is survived by her mother, Marilyn and stepfather, Roy; her five beloved children: Freddy, Bentlee, Avery, Rylee, and Cayden; her favorite—and only—brother, Chris; her stepbrothers, Dave and Michael; her home loves—Steve O and of course, Butters, her cat; many aunts and uncles, cousins, and dear friends who will cherish her memory.

Laura was preceded in death by her father, Kevin Haas; her grandparents: Ralph and Mildred Haas, Jimmy and Joyce Boeckman, and Henry and Sally Borreson.

Laura's memory will live on in the hearts of all who loved her and in the countless acts of kindness she shared throughout her life.
