Larry Freng, age 79, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, died Friday, July 31, 2026, at Dells Nursing & Rehab Center in Dell Rapids, South Dakota.
A memorial service will be 10:30 AM on Thursday, August 6, 2026, at Vangen Lutheran Church in Mission Hill, South Dakota, with Pastor Jacob Holck officiating. Burial will be in the Vangen Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the memorial service on Thursday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of the Wintz & Ray Funeral Home in Yankton, South Dakota.
The family will be having an extended visitation celebration of life on Friday, August 7, 2026 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM in the Heritage Room at Touchmark in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Honorary pallbearers will be Bob Rabenburg, Dan Kruse, Dean Holman, Doug Freng, Rick Sorensen, and Don Cain.
Larry Freng was born August 24, 1946, in Yankton, South Dakota, to Sidney and Millie (Christensen) Freng. He grew up in the Mission Hill area and attended country school until graduating from Volin High School in 1964. While in high school, Larry loved playing basketball, track, softball and football and was named as the Yankton Quarterback Club MVP for Volin Football in 1963. After high school, Larry attended IBM School in Omaha, Nebraska, for computer programming. He married Wanda White on February 24, 1968, at Vangen Lutheran Church in Mission Hill, South Dakota. They moved to Sioux Falls, South Dakota, where Larry began working as a programmer for Dan Dugan Transportation, which he continued for over 20 years. They moved to Harrisburg, South Dakota in 1972 and following his time with Dan Dugan Transportation, Larry worked for Midwest Coast until he retired in 2008.
Larry had a wonderful sense of humor and enjoyed spending time working on cars and camping in the Black Hills. He loved his family and especially loved spending time with his granddaughter, Hanna attending her soccer games and track meets whenever he could.
Survivors include his wife, Wanda of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; two children: Scott (Adrienne) Freng of Laramie, Wyoming and Sara Freng of Spearfish, South Dakota; granddaughter, Hanna Bjorkman; and brother, Bob (Judy) Freng of Alcester, South Dakota.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Sidney and Millie Freng.
