Kendall C. Blumer, age 89, of Yankton, South Dakota, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 1, 2026, at the Avera Majestic Bluffs Hospice House in Yankton.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM, on Friday, May 8, 2026 at the Wintz & Ray Funeral Home in Yankton with Reverend Jacob Bobby officiating. Burial will be in the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Yankton. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
Kendall—known to most as Ken—was born on May 23, 1936, in Sioux City, Iowa to Claude and Agnes (Wetrosky) Blumer. He grew up in Leeds, Iowa where he graduated from high school. On March 22, 1958, Ken married Dorothy I. Fick. Together, they shared 67 wonderful years of marriage—building a life centered on faith, family, and steady devotion to one another.
Ken served six years in the Iowa Air National Guard. He also took great pride in his work, devoting his entire adult life to Wilson Trailer Company—starting at the Sioux City plant and transferring to the Yankton plant in 1969. Even after retiring, he was asked to return part-time as a Quality Control Technician. In all, Ken gave 50 years to Wilson Trailer, known for his dependability, craftsmanship, and quiet commitment to doing things right.
Faith was a cornerstone of Ken’s life. He was devoted to his church—singing for many years in the choir, sharing his faith as a Sunday School teacher for 40 years, and faithfully serving in many roles on church councils.
Ken found joy in the simple things: time in the garden, a good day of fishing, following his grandchildren in sports, and the companionship of his pets. He cheered faithfully for his Iowa Hawkeyes, loved listening to polkas, and never turned down a Miller High Life.
Ken will be lovingly remembered by his children, Cynthia (Bernie) Rombough of Miller, SD, Gregory Blumer, and Julie Blumer of Sioux Falls, SD; and by his grandchildren: Caitlin Blumer, Troy (Emily) Larson, Seth (Kati) Rombough, Whitlee (Keegan) Larson, and Claudia (Tanner) Henkel. He is also survived by his great-grandchildren: Georgia Rombough and Theodore Henkel; brother-in-law, Richard (Penny) Fick of Richfield, MN; sister, Lilas Blumer-Eastman of Leeds, IA; sister-in-law, Milly Blumer of O’Fallon, MO; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Dorothy on May 20, 2025; his parents; and his brother, Charles Blumer.
