Judith “Judi” Lane was born February 20, 1943 at Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton, South Dakota to Leo F. and Mildred L. (Kaiser) Lane. They lived in Yankton where Judi attended school until they moved to Vermillion, when Leo started his business, Lane’s Sheet Metal shop in 1958. Judi graduated from Vermillion High School in 1961. After graduation, Judi enrolled in the South Dakota Hair Styling Academy in Sioux Falls, SD. On May 15, 1962, she graduated and on the 19th of May, she married Marlan Heggestad. She moved to Bremerton, WA, to be closer to Marlan while he served in the military. Later, they moved to Beresford, SD where Judi had her beauty shop in the front of their home. Judi enjoyed being close to their two children: Lynda Ann, who was born on October 30, 1963 and Teresa Marie, who was born on October 11, 1966. She and Marlan later divorced.

Judi and the girls moved to Fort Dodge IA, where she worked at Teddy Bears Bingo and Fort Dodge Cold Storage. In 1983, she married Bernard “Sonny” Olson. In 1985, they moved to California and Judi worked at Trench Plate Rental. In 1990, when Sonny retired from laying carpet, they moved to Yankton, SD. Judi worked at Yankton College for many years. She was very involved in Women’s Club, Al Anon and the 1961 class reunion committees for both Yankton and Vermillion.

In 2021, they moved to Norwalk, Iowa to be closer to the girls and their families. One of Judi’s great loves were her daughters and her grandchildren. She enjoyed watching her grandsons grow up. Judi also loved flowers and going to the botanical gardens to see all of the beautiful flowers was a trip she always enjoyed. Judi was always helping others. After talking to a classmate, Judi wanted to do one more thing. Her last wish was to continue her giving to others by donating her body to science at USD.

Judi leaves behind her daughters: Lyn Heggestad of Des Moines IA and Teresa (Corey) Ewing of Manson, IA; grandsons: Curtis (Kaylee) Knapp of Des Moines and Carter of Fort Riley, KS; granddaughter, Sondra (Jordan) Riggle of Des Moines; step children: Judy (Van) Shiota and Cindy Olson, both of Lodi, CA; step grandchildren: Shawna, Chelsea, Josh, Joe Jr, Karen, Jake, Jeremy and Samantha; and many nieces and nephews.

Judi was preceded in death by her parents, Leo and Millie Lane; her husband, Sonny Olson; and brothers, Kenny and Jerry.
