Joyce Elaine Karnes

 Joyce Elaine (Delozier) Karnes, age 84, of Laurel, Nebraska, died Tuesday, July 9, 2024, at Hillcrest Care Center in Laurel, Nebraska surrounded by her family.

 Funeral Services will be on Saturday, July 13, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at the Faith Community Church in Laurel with the Rev. Chris Clinchard officiating. Burial will be at the Laurel Cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday, at church, from 5-7:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. Visitation will continue on Saturday one hour prior to services. Arrangements are under the direction of the Wintz Funeral Home in Laurel.

Pallbearers will be Gary Ballentine, Dean Burbach, Tadd Delozier, Richard Delozier, Greg Meyer, David Meyer, and Paul Meyer.

 Joyce was born on September 27, 1939 to Paul James & Helen Anna (Jacobson) Delozier in Randolph, NE. The middle of five siblings. She grew up in Randolph attending Randolph Public School and graduating from Randolph High School in 1957. She went on to attend Norfolk Junior College receiving her Associates of Arts Degree in Elementary Education. She then taught elementary grades in Sholes, NE for two years and Randolph, NE for one year. On December 30, 1961 she married her true love, Cleo Karnes at the United Methodist Church in Randolph, NE. They lived for a few weeks in Laurel, NE before moving to their farm north of Laurel where they would make their home for over 53 years. To this union two children were born, daughter Debra (Kelly) Konken and son Joel (Lisa) Karnes.

 Joyce loved her 4 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren very much. She was an avid reader, and enjoyed baking and gardening. She was a member of the Laurel United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women’s Charity Circle, had taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. She was member of the women’s Country Tuesday Club, helped to organize the library at Hillcrest Care Center and was chairman of the Residents Council there.

 Joyce is survived by her children Debra & Kelly Konken and Joel & Lisa Karnes all of Hartington, NE. Grandchildren Kelsey (Konken) & Dane Dailey of Long Pine, NE. Alison Karnes, Sarah Karnes and Craig Karnes all of Hartington, NE. Great Grandchildren Duke Daniel, Dallyn Elaine, Daityn Jo and Devyn Jean Dailey all of Long Pine, NE. Her four siblings Beverly Ballentine of Fullerton, NE, Duane Delozier of Beatrice, NE, Marlee (Cliff) Burbach of Randolph, NE and Kathi (Ronnie) Meyer Randolph, NE. Aunts Norma Jacobson of Elkhorn, NE and Beverly Jacobson of Fremont, NE. Many nieces, nephews, family and friends.

 She was preceded in death by her husband Cleo (July 9, 2015), her parents Paul & Helen Delozier. Parents-in-law Joe & Mabel Karnes. Niece Linda Ballentine, nephews James Delozier and Andrew Delozier. Brother-in-law Dale Ballentine, sister-in-law Alyce Delozier. Sisters-in-law Dorothy Huetig Anderson, Doris (Robert) Morten, Joan (Jerry) Goodwin and brother-in-law Dean Karnes. Many aunts, uncles, cousins, family and friends.
