Joyce Anne Roslund, 81, of St. Paul, Minnesota, passed away unexpectedly on June 30, 2026 at Regions Hospital in St. Paul, MN.

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, August 5, 2026 at 10:30 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Laurel, NE with the Rev. Charity Potter officiating. Burial will follow at the Laurel Cemetery. Family and friends will gather for a light lunch at the church after the burial. Then later Wednesday evening the family will gather in Sioux City, Iowa. Arrangements are under the direction of the Wintz Funeral Home in Laurel.

Joyce was on February 2, 1945, in San Antonio, Texas, to John Dale and Dorothy Anne Urwiler, Joyce spent most of her childhood in Laurel, Nebraska, a community that always held a special place in her heart. Although life took her to many places, Laurel always remained “home” in her heart. She faithfully returned each year for her high school reunion and cherished the lifelong friendships she maintained there.

Joyce attended the University of Nebraska, Lincoln, where she met the love of her life, Gerald "Jerry" Roslund, in 1964. They married in 1967 following graduation and built a remarkable life together centered on faith, family, and unwavering devotion to one another. While Jerry pursued his career, the couple lived in Ohio, where Joyce earned her master's degree in Guidance Counseling from the University of Cincinnati. After living in Ohio and Pennsylvania early in their marriage, they settled in Rochester Hills, Michigan, where they spent nearly four decades raising their family before later relocating to Minnesota and eventually spending winters in Florida.

Joyce dedicated nearly 40 years to serving students as both a teacher and guidance counselor, primarily working in alternative education programs. She had a special heart for young people who needed encouragement, guidance, and someone who believed in them. Her quiet compassion and steady presence made a lasting difference in countless lives.

Above all else, Joyce treasured her family. She was immensely proud of her sons, Jeffrey and Gregory, and spoke of them often. Becoming "Grandma" brought her even greater joy. Whenever her grandchildren came to visit, they knew they would be greeted with fresh cookies, homemade cake, new coloring books, and countless hugs. She delighted in creating memories that would last a lifetime.

Joyce was known for her warm personality and genuine interest in others. She made friends wherever she went and worked intentionally to maintain those friendships, often sending thoughtful handwritten cards for birthdays, holidays, and special occasions. She believed relationships were worth nurturing and rarely let someone important in her life go too long without hearing from her.

She and Jerry shared a love of travel, enjoying numerous cruises and international adventures together, including a memorable trip to Israel. In recent years, they faithfully attended Christ Church of Longboat Key where Joyce served as an usher, was a member of Worship Committee and Women’s Bible Study, and enjoyed being an active Elder of the Presbyterian congregation.

Despite retiring from her career, Joyce never retired from supporting the people she loved. She enthusiastically encouraged Jeffrey's entrepreneurial journey with Dapper Barons Spirits, often joining him at tasting events where she happily poured samples, greeted customers, and celebrated every milestone right alongside him. She was equally proud of Gregory, who built a distinguished career as an emergency medicine physician in the Dallas, Texas area, caring for patients across multiple emergency departments. Joyce admired his dedication to serving others and took great pride in the compassion and professionalism he brought to his work.

Nothing brought Joyce greater joy than watching both of her sons build wonderful families of their own. She celebrated their accomplishments, supported them unconditionally, and cherished every opportunity to spend time with them and their children.

Joyce also embraced life with remarkable energy. She and Jerry took long walks together nearly every day, and she remained active, healthy, and engaged with life until her sudden passing. While her death came far sooner than anyone expected, those who knew her will remember a life filled with generosity, kindness, faith, and love.

Joyce is survived by her devoted husband, Gerald "Jerry" Roslund; her sons, Jeffrey David (Juliana) Roslund and Gregory Lane (Jennifer) Roslund; her beloved grandchildren, Cecelia Roslund, Diana Roslund, Liam Roslund, Ari Roslund, and Duke Roslund; along with many extended family members and dear friends whose lives were enriched by knowing her.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved sister, Janet Kay Ingmire, whom she missed dearly following her passing in 2003. Her family finds comfort in knowing they have now been joyfully reunited.

In lieu of flowers, the family invites those wishing to honor Joyce's memory to make a donation to a charity of their choice. Jerry would also enjoy sharing an occasional dinner and conversation with family and friends as he adjusts to life without his beloved wife and lifelong companion.

Whether through a handwritten card, a warm meal, a thoughtful conversation, or simply showing up for the people she loved, she invested deeply in relationships throughout her life. Her kindness, generosity, unwavering support, and genuine joy in helping others will continue to live on in everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. Joyce will be remembered for the way she made people feel valued. She will be deeply missed, forever loved, and remembered always.
