Jack was born August 30, 1940 at Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton to John and Lillian (Hoeffner) Frick. Jack attended grade school and began working at an early age. On March 12, 1960, he married his grade school sweetheart, Pam Christopherson. They lived in Alaska while Jack served in the United States Military. After his discharge, they returned home to Yankton where they committed themselves to building a family and life they would endlessly cherish. They had three children who by the end of his life was blessed with the abundance in which he lived: eight grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
In 1976 a few years after the passing of his father, Jack took over the family business, Frick Hog Buying and Trucking, as well as the family farm east of Yankton. Jack worked tirelessly to build the business – eventually hiring six buyers and owning 12 trucks. During his time, his team attended nearly 40 auctions a week, spanning markets in South Dakota, Nebraska, Iowa and Minnesota. Most weeks saw the business hauling 12,000 to 15,000 hogs across the region.
Even during the height of his career, Jack never missed an opportunity to be the “fun factor” in the lives of his friends and family. From pool parties to boating on the river (always stopping at a sandbar, to pulling kids on the toboggan roped to a snowmobile (actually not that safe), Jack played as hard as he worked. His cabin on the Missouri River hosted epic Fourth of July celebrations that brought extended family home year after year. In retirement, Jack and Pam built a home on the land they both loved so dearly, surrounding by rolling hills and a view of the James River. Jack kept busy leasing the land to local farmers, driving the fields on his 4-wheeler and running to town to have daily coffee or lunch with friends.
Jack had many gifts and creating meaningful memories for those he loved was one of his greatest. On March 12, 2026, Pam and Jack would have shared their 66th wedding anniversary. A beautiful reminder of a lifetime spent side by side since they were six and seven years old.
Jack is survived by three children: Kim (Dan) Mueller of Yankton, Chris (Jodie) Frick of Yankton, and Craig (Missy) Frick of Chaska, MN; eight grandchildren: Heather (Sean) McLaughlin, Jordan (Jacklyn) Mueller, Josh (Tiffany) Mueller, Jacob (Koty) Frick, Morgan (Brandon) Van Osdel, Tanner (Kennedy) Frick, Ashley (Luke) Williams, and Jack Frick; 11 great grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Susan Frick and her children, Terry (Mary) Frick and Vickie Eaves.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Pam on March 7, 2026; great granddaughter, Bryn Van Osdel; and a brother, Bob Frick.
