John “Chub” Honomichl, age 75, of Yankton, South Dakota, died Sunday, September 21, 2025, at his home in Yankton.
A memorial service will be 2:00 PM on Thursday, September 25, 2025, at the Wintz & Ray Funeral Home in Yankton, South Dakota, with Reverend Dani Jo Bierwagen officiating. Military honors will be performed by the Ernest-Bowyer VFW Post No. 791 following the memorial service. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the memorial service at the Wintz & Ray Funeral Home.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Randy Gregor, Ernie Gullikson, Mason Novak and Abby James.
John “Chub” Honomichl was born September 14, 1950, in Wagner, South Dakota, to John and Clara (Schultz) Honomichl. He grew up in Wagner and graduated from Wagner High School. He then enlisted into the United States Navy and served his country during the Vietnam War. After his honorable discharge from the Navy, he moved to Vermillion, South Dakota and attended the University of South Dakota. He then began his career in construction. First in Vermillion, then in Chandler, Arizona, and finally in Yankton. He married Dorothy “Dotty” Bartikowsky on December 24, 1994, in Tyndall, South Dakota.
John was an all-around handyman and jack of all trades. He could fix just about anything from his house to his cars. He enjoyed being outdoors and loved to go camping, hunting and most of all fishing. He was a member of the Yankton VFW and enjoyed going to the various events they put on. He also enjoyed playing pool, reading Louis L’Amour novels, watching the Vikings, and spending time with his friends. He was always generous and willing to lend a helping hand.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy “Dotty” Honomichl of Yankton; daughters: Rachael and Ally; step-children: Jody (Kerry) Steffen of Fordyce, Nebraska and Jason Novak of Yankton; grandchildren: Abby (Robert) James, Mason Novak, and Seth Novak; sister, Karen (Robert) Johnson and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Donald, DeWayne, and Gary; and sisters: Leota and Jackie.
