Jewell G. Nelson

Jewell G. Nelson age 88 of Laurel, Nebraska died on Thursday, February 04, 2021 at Providence Medical Center in Wayne, Nebraska. Graveside services will be held at a future date this spring of 2021.  Burial of her cremated remains will be at the Maskell Cemetery in Maskell, Nebraska. Jewell Genevieve was born on November 20, 1932 in Maskell, Nebraska to Joseph Martin and Cora Genevieve (Pederson) Nelson.  She moved to Laurel, Nebraska in 1934 and attended elementary school at Logan Center, Nebraska.   Jewell’s mother died in 1941. Jewell and her sister Eunice moved to a farm near Coleridge in 1944. Jewell graduated from Coleridge High School as the Salutatorian of her class.  It was during the winter of 1948 that Jewell lived with the Frerichs family for six months during the winter because of all the snow that fell that year.  Jewell and her sister Eunice began farming together and continued this lifelong career of 75 years until just a week before she died.  She and Eunice raised chickens, hogs, fat cattle, milked cows, and raised grain, corn and beans. Jewell is survived by her brother Calvin (Karen) Nelson of Laguna Beach, CA; niece Kristi (Andy) Williamson of Chapel Hill, NC –and their children Aaron & Noah; niece Michelle (Pete) Aleshire of Payson, AZ and their children Brooke (Kubby) of Fairbanks, AK and Crystal (Kubby) of Tempe, AZ. Jewell was preceded in death by her parents Joseph and Cora Nelson; a sister Eunice Nelson on 4/12/2020 at the age of 91.
