Imelda “Millie” Lorraine Sjuts Leapley age 98 of Coleridge, Nebraska died on Friday, April 3, 2026 at Park View Haven Nursing Home in Coleridge.

Funeral Services will be on Wednesday, April 8, 2026 at 3:00 p.m. at the Pilgrim Congregational Church in Coleridge with the Rev. Terry Buol officiating. Burial will be at the Coleridge City Cemetery. Visitation will be on Wednesday, at church, from 1:30-3:00 p.m. Arrangements are under the direction of the Wintz Funeral Home in Coleridge.

Pallbearers will be Larry Leapley, Jim Leapley, John Leapley, Bill Leapley, Sean Leapley, and Michel Leapley. Honorary pallbearers will be Millie’s grandchildren.

Imelda “Millie” Lorraine (Sjuts) Leapley was born on March 22, 1928 to George Sjuts and Lena (Wilken) Sjuts on a farm near Cornlea, Nebraska. She attended District 38 at Cornlea and graduated from Humphrey High School in 1945.

Millie attended summer school at Wayne State and received her teaching certificate. She taught rural schools in Platte County for 4 years. On August 19, 1949 Imelda married William (Bill) Leapley at St. Peters Lutheran Church in Humphrey. To this union three sons were born, Larry, Jim, and John.

They lived on the Leapley farm outside Coleridge until 1986 when they moved into Coleridge. One of the things they enjoyed most was spending winters in Texas and Florida for about 40 years.

Millie was a member of Pilgrim Congregational United Church of Christ. She was active in Women’s Circle where she sewed quilts for missions and baby blankets for layettes. She taught Sunday school and held church offices. She was a member of Dryland Daisies Extension Club. Millie co-chaired and helped with the Hobby Show in Coleridge for many years. She was also a Cub Scout leader.

Family was so special to Millie. What a blessing to have them. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, bird watching, crafts, reading, playing games with grandkids, and especially baking for family.

Millie is survived by her three sons, Larry Leapley and friend Donna Preston, Yankton, SD; Jim and Betty Jo Leapley, Coleridge, NE and John and Rhonda Leapley, of Juniata, NE; grandchildren, Jayne Leapley and husband Marc Kimoto, Sooke, British Columbia; Heather and Allen Strand, Chisago City, MN; Christyne and Justin Schultz, Hastings, NE; Sara Leapley and husband Daniel Naberhaus, Mountain View, Hawaii; Bill Leapley, Coleridge, NE; Sean and Sarah Leapley, Sioux Falls, SD; Michel Leapley, Coleridge, NE; Gail and Bradley Kathol, Bow Valley, NE, and Katie Jo and Zachary Dietrich, Ralston, NE; 4 great grandchildren Logan and Declan Kimoto, and Jet and Ivry Schultz; a brother Don Sjuts, Humphrey, NE; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Those preceding her in death were her parents George and Lena Sjuts; her husband William (Bill) on March 30, 2016; daughter-in-law, Becky Leapley; brother Henry and Loraine Sjuts; sisters Elsie and Ernest Loseke, Norma Jean and Duane Kamm, Dorothy at 8 years old, and infant sister Laura; sister-in-law Norma Sjuts: her parents-in-law Roy and Selma Leapley; and twin sisters-in-law Glennis and infant Glenna Leapley.
