Gwen M. Gevens, age 70, of Yankton, South Dakota, passed away peacefully with her children by her side at the Avera Dougherty Hospice House on May 5, 2025.
Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM on Monday, May 12, 2025, at St. Benedict Catholic Church in Yankton, South Dakota, with Reverend Bob Lacey officiating. Entombment will be in the columbarium at the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Yankton. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 PM on Sunday, May 11, 2025, at the Wintz & Ray Funeral Home in Yankton with a rosary and vigil service at 7:00 PM.
Gwen Marie Gevens was born December 16, 1954, in Bloomfield, Nebraska, to Harold and Betty (Huchtmeier) Kuehler. Gwen attended school in Aten, Nebraska before graduating from Yankton High School in 1972. Gwen was united in marriage to James Gevens and would be blessed with two children: Ryan and Adrienne. Gwen took pride in being a mom and grandmother and enjoyed watching and celebrating their activities and achievements.
Gwen began working at First Dakota National Bank in 1976. Gwen started as a part-time bookkeeper. She held several roles at the bank over the years transitioning to her final position as Marketing and FirstPartners Assistant in 2003. Gwen was proud to have worked for such a supporting employer for 49 years. First Dakota was an extension of Gwen’s family that she treasured.
Gwen was a member of the PEO and served with the Mead Museum. She shared her love of reading, music and classic TV with Ryan. She also enjoyed traveling as she was able. Some highlights included trips to New York City, Washington DC, Door County Wisconsin, Myrtle Beach and the trip of her lifetime when she and Adrienne traveled to Israel to experience and be witness to some of the most Holy Lands.
Gwen is survived by her children; son Ryan (Teresa) Gevens, daughter Adrienne (Brian) Burris, grandchildren Tara, Morgan, Deacon and Carolyn; brother Steve (Norma) Kuehler, sister Karen (Willard) Schmidt, brother David Kuehler, along with many nieces and nephews, extended family and friends.
Gwen was proceeded in death by her parents, sister-in-law Shari Kuehler, nephew Christopher Kuehler and special friends Harvey and Evelyn Gevens.
