He was raised on his parents’ family farm east of Tabor, attended Wilson Country Grade School and graduated from Tabor High School in 1960. On November 29, 1960, Eugene enlisted in the South Dakota National Guard 115 Signal Support Company. He served until October 1, 1961 when he was called up for a year of active duty during the Berlin Crisis. Eugene served until April of 1962 when the Crisis ended. He then returned to his National Guard Company. He served there until November 29, 1966. Eugene ran a rugged shortwave military radio that allowed for Morse Code and voice communication.
After his service, Eugene came home to help run the family farm. On September 18, 1971, Eugene married Mary Ann Rous. They farmed together for 54 years. Eugene was a loving husband and always had a smile for everyone he encountered. Together with Mary Ann, they had a great love of the land and animals. Eugene loved checking the cows with his trusty dog, Rusty. Some of his favorite things to do were following the Yankton Bucks and Minnesota Twins. Eugene served on the board of Bohemian Farmers Mutual Insurance. He was a faith filled member of St. Wenceslaus Church and the Catholic Workman (FCSLA).
His memory will be cherished by his wife, Mary Ann Jambor of Lesterville; brother, Alvin Jambor of Hampshire, IL; sisters-in-law, Janice Rous of Tyndall, SD and Donna Jambor of Yankton; along with several nieces and nephews.
