A memorial service will be held at 10:30 AM, on Thursday, January 15, 2026 at Wintz & Ray Funeral Home in Yankton with Pastor Nate Moore officiating. Burial will be at the Aten Cemetery in Aten, Nebraska following the service.
Erma was born November 25, 1936 in Crofton, Nebraska to Walter and Mabel (McCullough) Dusterhoft. She grew up on a farm near Crofton and graduated from Bloomfield High School. Erma then enlisted in the United States Navy serving her county for four years. Her last tour of duty was at the Naval Hospital in San Diego, California where she worked as dental hygienist. After her honorable discharge, she moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota and worked for Honeywell for many years. When Erma retired, she enjoyed her retirement years in Yankton.
Erma had a deep love for reading and was rarely seen without a book in her hands. She also enjoyed watching game shows, working on word puzzles, crocheting, and sharing stories from her life. She cherished visiting with her friends and faithfully attended church services offered at the facility. Erma especially enjoyed attending entertainment events and listening to old country music. She often spoke with pride about her time serving in the Navy as a dental hygienist, a chapter of her life she held close to her heart.
Erma is survived by her sister, Lois Dartford of Glendale, California; sister-in-law, Carol Dusterhoft of Yankton; and several nieces and nephews.
Erma was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Lyle and Elden Dusterhoft.
