Edward Norman Mullen, age 61, of Battle Creek, Nebraska, died unexpectedly on August 15, 2026, at Faith Health in Norfolk, Nebraska.
His family will be hosting a memorial service at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, at United Lutheran Church in Laurel, Nebraska, with Pastor Tom Tuura officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the memorial service on Wednesday at the church.
Edward Norman Mullen was born November 20, 1964, in Huntington, New York, to Harry and Dorothy (Loysch) Mullen. He grew up in Huntington Station Long Island, New York and graduated from Huntington High School. He moved to Laurel, Nebraska in 1988 and married Marsha Hangman on April 15, 1989 in Laurel. To this union four children were born: Meghann, Jonathon, Samantha and Matthew. Ed worked various jobs in the Laurel area, from plumbing and building houses to being the cook at the Wagon Wheel. He later met his special friend, Julie Emmons and together moved to Battle Creek, Nebraska.
Ed was unapologetically himself. He would talk to anyone and loved to have a good time. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, tinkering, Dale Earnhardt, watching WWE and listening to music. He loved attending his kids and grandkids activities and loved making breakfast for everyone. He had a great sense of humor and will be greatly missed.
Survivors include his four children: Meghann Mullen of Laurel; Jonathon (Megan) Mullen of Wayne, Nebraska; Samantha Mullen and her significant other Lyle Hackney of Laurel and Matthew (Kyri) Mullen of Laurel; nine grandchildren: Mack, Landon, Cylus, Allison, Kenzie, Molly, August, Lydia and Ellie; his special friend, Julie Emmons of Battle Creek, Nebraska; brother, Thomas “TJ” Mullen of Long Island, New York; sister, Patricia “Pat” (Daniel) Osborne of Long Island; two sisters-in-law; Carolyn Mullen and Annette Mullen; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers: Harry Jr., Gary and Richard Mullen; sister-in-law, Andrea Mullen and niece, Kylie Brown.
