Dr. Nicasio B. Saoi

Dr. Nicasio B. Saoi, age 96, of Yankton, South Dakota died on Friday, January 10, 2025 at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton.

Funeral services will be 11:30 AM on Saturday, January 25, 2025 at the Wintz & Ray Funeral Home in Yankton with Aaron and Alan Wager officiating. Burial will be in the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Yankton. Visitation is from 5:00 to 7:00 PM on Friday, January 24 at the Wintz & Ray Funeral Home in Yankton. Visitation will also continue one hour prior to the funeral.

Nicasio B. Saoi was born October 11, 1928, to Balbino and Eugenia (Bugayong) Saoi on the Philippine Islands. He grew up on the Philippine Islands and attended school there. He graduated from the University of Santo Tomas in Manila, were he received his Doctor of Medicine. Nick practiced medicine in the Philippines for one year and then moved to the United States in 1954. He lived in Minneapolis, Minnesota where he did his post graduate work at the University of Minnesota and the Ramsey County Medical School. Nick married Arlys Wager on May 30, 1959 in St. Paul, Minnesota. After their marriage, they moved to Yankton, SD where Dr. Saoi had a private practice for 35 years. In his retirement years, Nick enjoyed woodworking, gardening and caring for his flowers, especially his orchids which he won an award for. 

He was a member of the American Medical Association, American Urological Association, American Fertility Society, American Association of Clinical Urologists, South Dakota State Medical Association, and the 8th District Medical Society.

Nick is survived by his three children: David Saoi of Yankton, Kristen Saoi of Yankton and Steven Saoi of Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Arlys Saoi on September 16, 2021; two sisters: Crestita Mina and Teresita Saoi; and two brothers, Bienvenido Saoi and Jesus Saoi.
