Donald Anthony Bergman age 93 of Hartington, Nebraska died on Friday, December 03, 2021 at his residence under Hospice care. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Tuesday, December 7, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Hartington with the Rev. Owen Korte officiating. Burial will be at St. Michael’s cemetery in Hartington with military honors by the Hartington VFW Post #5283.  Visitation will be on Monday, at church, from 5-8:00 p.m. with a Vigil Service at 7:00 p.m.  Visitation will continue on Tuesday one hour prior to services at church.  Arrangements are under the direction of the Wintz Funeral Home in Hartington. Pallbearers will be Brandon Moes, Trent Moes, Todd Kathol, Brad Kathol, Mark Kathol, Tomas Kathol, Kurtis Kathol, and Jennifer Kathol. Donald Anthony was born on July 16, 1928 in Axtel, Kansas to Henry Leo and Josephine (Vondenkamp) Bergman.  Donald grew up on a farm near St. Benedict, KS and went to country school for several years and finished his formal schooling in St. Benedict.  He worked on a harvest crew one season and then served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, attaining the position of Corporal and working in the motor pool.  He married Virginia Kleinschmit on June 28, 1955 in Menominee, NE.  It was while Don was working on the Gavins Point Dam that his supervisor introduced his niece, Virginia to Don.  He and Virginia lived in Lincoln, NE for almost 15 years doing construction and mill right work.  Don had built two houses in Lincoln and then they moved to Hartington to farm in 1969.  Don built their home there as well.  Don enjoyed farming, fishing, family, and golf. Don was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, and the Hartington VFW Post #5283. Don is survived by his wife, Virginia of Hartington; three children Steven J. Bergman & special friend Sue Neuhalfen of Hartington, Jane Bergman and fiance Ivan Jelsma of Springfield, SD, Joyce (Don) Kathol of Bow Valley, NE; 10 grandchildren;  a sister Jerian Stallbaumer of Seneca, KS. He was preceded in death by his parents, son Keith Bergman; sisters Irene Heise, Edith Wessell, Wilma Hunninghake; brothers Emmett Bergman, Ralph Bergman, Kenny Bergman, and Henry Bergman.
