Diane K. Schramm, age 75, of Utica, South Dakota, died Monday, December 4, 2023, at the Good Samaritan Society in Scotland, South Dakota.
Funeral services will be 10:30 AM on Saturday, December 9, 2023, at St. Benedict Catholic Church in Yankton, South Dakota, with Reverend Bob Lacey officiating. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Yankton, South Dakota. Visitation is from 5:00 to 7:00 PM on Friday, December 8, 2023, at the Wintz & Ray Funeral Home in Yankton, South Dakota, with a vigil service and rosary at 7:00 PM.
Pallbearers will be her grandchildren: Zayne Schramm, Jordan Diede, Cameron Hallvin, Grady Schramm, and nephews: Jeremy Schramm and Nick Michael. Honorary pallbearers will be her grandchildren: Robyn Schramm, Macy Schramm, Brigitte Grantham, Megan Diede, Avery Damron, Olivia Damron, Grayson Damron, Tegyn Schramm, Brooklyn Hallvin, Keely Schramm, Sally Schramm, Van Schramm, August Schramm and Layne Schramm.
Diane K. Schramm was born September 28, 1948, in Yankton, South Dakota, to Lester and Darlene (Welch) Michael. She grew up on a farm east of Utica, South Dakota and was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Yankton, South Dakota. She attended Fishbeck School K-8th grade and graduated from Yankton High School in 1966. She worked for Utica Lumber and Grain as a bookkeeper for several years. She married Rodney Schramm on January 13, 1968, in Yankton, South Dakota. They lived on their farm near Utica, where they raised their seven children. Diane worked part-time as a relief carrier for the United States Postal Service for ten years and then as a full-time rural mail carrier until her retirement in 2010.
Diane was a giving, selfless woman who loved the Lord and her family. She was very active at St. Agnes Sigel Church, teaching catechism, singing in the choir and serving as a lector and on the altar society. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, baking, canning, crocheting and researching genealogy. She volunteered as a 4-H leader and enjoyed bringing school children out to learn about farm life. She never missed an event for her children and loved playing with her grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband, Rodney Schramm of Utica, South Dakota; seven children: Justin (Dalene) Schramm of Yankton, South Dakota; Jill Schramm (Francisco Dominicci) of Elizabeth, Colorado; Sally Schramm-Damron of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Matthew (Diane) Schramm of Yankton; Rachel Schramm of Tea, South Dakota; Garrett (Katy) Schramm of Rochester, Minnesota; and Seth (Ashley) Schramm of Tea; 18 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren: Emmalyn, Blair and Cameron; three siblings: Donna (Bruce) Schwarz of Yankton; Dennis Michael of Utica; and Daryl Michael of Sioux Falls; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents: Lester and Darlene Michael.
The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at the Good Samaritan Society in Scotland for the wonderful care that they provided to Diane.
