Dennis Ray Bevers, age 72, of Yankton, South Dakota died on Friday, April 3, 2026 at Avera Majestic Bluffs Hospice House in Yankton with Sheila by his side.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM, on Monday, April 13, 2026 at the Wintz & Ray Funeral Home in Yankton with Reverend Steve Weispfennig officiating. Military honors will be performed immediately after the service by the Ernest-Bowyer VFW Post No. 791 of Yankton. The family will receive friends one hour prior the service at the Wintz & Ray Funeral Home.
Honorary pallbearers are Thomas Milk, Myron Milk, Jeff Hausmann, Mike Bell, Larry Woods, Mike York, Joey Wuestewald, and Justin Wuestewald.
Dennis was born July 14, 1953 in Bell, California to Coy and Betty (Lewis) Bevers. He received his GED and joined the United States Armed Forces. Dennis served in the Army during Vietnam and was stationed in Hawaii among several other places. In 1998, Dennis moved to Yankton and met Sheila Beaner and they have spent the last 28 years together. Dennis worked as a chef at several restaurants including the Coffee House and JoDean’s. He then worked in construction until an accident forced him to retire. Dennis was a great handyman and could fix about anything. He was known for his signature beard and it was something he was very proud of. Dennis enjoyed traveling with Sheila, collecting memorabilia, and listening to 60’s and 70’s music. Dennis loved the company of his two dogs, Bud and Duke. He was a kind man who would help anyone in need.
Dennis is survived by his best friend of 28 years, Sheila Beaner of Yankton; brother, Kenneth (Linda) Bevers of Roswell, NM; sister, Connie Larez also of Roswell; Sheila’s step mother Ce (Wayne) Sorenson of Yankton and her siblings: Sandi (Glenn) Fejfar of Hills, MN, Curt (Vicky) Sorenson of Yankton, and Sarah (Randy) Waring of Omaha, NE; and many nieces and nephews.
Dennis was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Robert Bevers.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family where a memorial will be designated at a later time.
