David J. Rolfes

David J. Rolfes, age 72, of Yankton, South Dakota died Wednesday, March 25, 2026, at his home in Yankton.

A memorial service will be 10:30 AM on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, at the Wintz & Ray Funeral Home in Yankton, South Dakota, with Reverend Bob Lacey officiating. Burial will be at a later date in the St. Boniface Cemetery in Menominee, Nebraska. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the memorial service at the Wintz & Ray Funeral Home.

David J. Rolfes was born July 2, 1953 in Yankton, South Dakota to Jerome and Anna Mae (Heine) Rolfes. He grew up and attended grade school in Menominee, Nebraska. His family moved to Hartington, Nebraska and David graduated from Cedar Catholic High School. He then began hog farming and he farmed in Nebraska, South Dakota, and Kansas. In 2006, David began trucking, which took him to 46 of the lower 48 states.

David had a sweet tooth and a great sense of humor. He was always trying to make you smile or laugh. He was a generous and helpful man, always bringing things back from his trips and grocery shopping for other residents in his apartment.

Survivors include his three children: Kari (Julius II) Elam of Tripp, South Dakota; Steven Rolfes of Yankton, South Dakota and Samantha (Chris) Barth of Lincoln, Nebraska; eight grandchildren; two brothers: Ron (Rose) Rolfes of Wynot, Nebraska and Charles Rolfes of Minneapolis, Minnesota; two sisters: Joann (Ron) Suing of Crofton, Nebraska and Rose (Dave) Goeden of Yankton; as well as many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Kenny Rolfes.
